Re: Awkward situation - UPDATED
seems like it worked out. and i have to add that this is why when/if i go out for lunch, i never ask anyone if they want anything. call me selfish, but i'm not running around getting things for everyone on my lunch hour. not what you were doing, but you know how people take advantage.

Posted by CaseyGirl UPDATE 8/9: I went to lunch and only got myself an iced latte. When I came back she said to me "What, no coffee today? " So I said, oh sorry, I only had $5 on me. She said "I would have given you $"..uhhh...well ya didn't!
Wow. That is nervey.
When I initially read your post I thought maybe she kept forgetting to give you money, but now I just think she's a mooch.
I wouldn't offer to get her anything from now on and if she asks either decline or ask for money up front.
This is not meant to sound snarky, I'm just asking...
Why did you let it go on for so long? I think the first time it happened you would have had every right to ask for money.

Honestly because I am not confrontational at all and she reports to me...so I kept thinking, maybe she'll give me $ on Mondays or something for the week...I'm too nice. I let it go on for too long.

My boss and I fund the chocolate bowl. If I can't go and buy some then he does and if he is doing more than me, I give him money..
I don't assume since he makes oodles more than me that he will front my chocolate habit.

Re: Awkward situation - UPDATED

At work, I usually bring back an iced latte or coffee from Dunkin Donuts after lunch. Well, one of the ladies from the office saw that I always came back with it and asked me if she gave me $, could I pick one up for her too. So I said sure why not.
Always gave me the $$ for it. For the past, let's say 3 weeks, she NEVER gives me the $ for it. A medium iced latte is almost $4 and a medium iced coffe is around $2. So I spend anywhere from $20 -40 bucks a week on that! I know I have my own bad habit (I do get skim milk though ) but I don't need the added expense of hers! I am starting to wonder if she thinks I owe her something...she has been here a while and is an assistant...I am a manager and I am sure she is aware that I make a lot more than her...so is she thinking in some weird way that she is owed or something? I dunno.
I want to say something but I don't want to sound obnoxious..and it would be too obvious if I just started not bringing one back.
I guess I can ask for the $ up front?

I agree you handled it well. She wouldn't have gotten an ice coffee on day 2 if it was me. I cannot believe you bought it for her for 3 weeks.

Thanks ladies!
That's what I will do - if she doesn't pony up the $ before I leave for lunch - I will not get her one.
Can you believe the nerve? If my DH found out he would be
So what, now you're out the $$$ from the past three weeks? I'd still say something to her about that. That's obnoxious, and you're TOO GENEROUS for such an undeserving person. She can't be assuming like that - it's rude!
