Babies and "Spirits"
So I always joke w/ DH about Alex seeing our "ghost" at home. But I'm half serious.. Whenever we're in the kitchen, she looks towards her Nursery (just a blank wall area really), and she coos, smiles, & even giggles whenever she looks over there, now there's nothing exciting to look at, so I wonder if she has an angel, a spirit guide, or perhaps a ghost! Call me crazy, and I'm not sure what to believe in, but they say that babies & children are much more prone to seeing "spirits" than adults, our minds being too tainted. Anyway, just thought I'd share, something to ponder I guess.

Oh yeah, when Rudy was a little younger, he would wag his tail & playfully bark at "nothing"!

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
I do have to say that the other night Joseph woke up crying saying he "missed Grandpa in Florida" and needed to see him. I was very freaked out by it because DH's stepdad was having heart surgery that day. Something I know wasn't discussed at home & he couldn't have possibly overheard. I half convinced myself he was going to die because of it.
Luckily, he was fine.

After my dad passed away, my nephews would always point at a chair and say grandpa. It freaked me out.

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
I believe that babies/children are closer to God, and that when they laugh to themselves or smile at something (either beyond us, or that we don't see), that they are seeing/communicating with their Guardian Angel.

Thats so funny, Julia use to do the same thing! I would always look up and wonder what she was smiling at. So strange!

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
Well, not to freak anyone out, but my parents told me that when I was a child I would wake up in the morning and tell them that I talked to grandma all night (she was deceased of course) and then some times I would sing in swedish (my grandma was swedish) in the mornings and "talking to grandma during the night"....Strange but true.

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
i had an experience myself as a child, I saw a little old lady walk into my aunt's room (my mom was newly divorced from my dad and we lived with my grandparents and my aunt and uncles) my mom's nanny died right before I was born and she was like a mother to my mom and her siblings. I was about 4 at the time and in the morning I explained to my Mom the description of the ladfy who was walking all around the room, cleaning things up and then knealt next to us and prayed, walked to the door and waved goodbye to me, and it was her nanny!!! My kids also do that blind stare and giggle, my uncle who was more like my brother died prior to me giving birth and onesday when my daughter was about 3 she saw a picture of him anmd said "I know him, he comes into the house all the time!!"

oh geez - that would so freak me out if my son started doing that...
My son always looks in another room and laughs or smiles - like someone is standing before me - it always scares me esp when he is looking into a dark room - I think someone is in my house.

I agree. I'm staying with my parents and my dad always sees a women ghost poke her head out of the dining room into the living room. I could have sworn I've seen it (during one of those late night feedings). But my cat was here and kept on looking toward that direction like he saw someone or something.

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
I totally agree with this! Especially with Zachary, everytime he is on the changing table he always looks at this one area in their room. He smiles, coos and gets excited at "nothing". I truly think he sees either my grandparents or my aunt (who died before he was born) we live in the house they used to live in.

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
When I was in labor with James...I felt someone rocking me and could hear a slight hum...I didn't know what it was...I thought I was going crazy because I was so worried about James.
Right after James was born and the NICU team had gotten him tubed they called DH over to come and look at James. When Dh got up to walk over I felt someone squeeze my hand, and then I hearn my Unlce Andy's voice tell me..."everything is going to be ok, James' great great grandmother is watching over him" He kissed me on my right cheek and then left. I never saw him, I just heard and felt him.
When I told this to my mother later that day she started to hum a song and asked me if that was the one I heard when I was being rocked...it Was...she said that my great grandmother was always humming that tune.
Every so often I hear James talking up a storm and when I walk into the room there is now one there except him...when he sees me...he waves at the direction he was talking and then laughs...then he runs off to play.
I really believe that James has guardians and a great great grandmother and now great grandmothers watching over him.

Re: Babies and "Spirits"
I remember a psychic saying that little ones were more likely to see ghosts because they are more open than adults- when we think we see something we tend to think we're losing our minds! I believe that little kids can sense things that surprise us.
ETA- There's a joke in my DH's family because he inisisted thoughout childhood that he was at his parents' wedding (2 years before his birth). I teased him too, and one day he said very seriously, "You know what? I really do think I was there." And I believe him.
