babies who hate tummy time
Anyone have this problem? My son is almost 3 months old and he is definitely NOT a fan! He'll usually last about 2-3 minutes before he starts to get upset. If he's in a particularly happy/active mood, he'll do it on top of my husband or me- like tummy to tummy- for a while. I think his issue with it is that he likes to be able to see everyone and see what's going on, and he can only hold himself up for a little while at a time. Will he eventually tolerate it more on his own, or is there something I can do to make him like it more? I've tried putting toys near him, and I always lay down with my face next to his.

I DO! Carlie is now 5 months, and STILL HATES TUMMY TIME... she can sit up and almost flip from back to belly... but she HATES HATES HATES her tummy time... like your son, she only last like 2-3 mins at like 3 months, maybe even less then that. Now she will last like 5 mins...
The Dr. keeps saying to just keep practicing and she will get it... so thats what we do, he doesn't find anything wrong with it... she is a little on the larger side (18lbs at 5 months) so its harder for her to push herself up and she gets frustrated faster..
Just keep practicing.

Kaydyn HATED tummy time. She would only last a couple of mins before she would start to scream. We would just do it a couple of times a day for very short periods.

When she gets upset, do you pick her up right away? I'm torn about that. I used to think I should leave him on his tummy for an extra couple of minutes when he starts to get upset to push him a little. But lately I've been thinking that I should pick him up or roll him over so he doesn't have a negative association with tummy time? But I don't want to spoil him by letting him whine his way out of tummy time either!

That's kind of what we've been doing too, but I really haven't seen a difference. Did Kaydyn eventually tolerate longer periods of time?

ds HATED tt... until he one day started rolling from back to belly at 5.5 months and now he loves being on his belly...
nothing i did.. i didnt push tt.. i knew eventually he would strengthen his upper body strength.
he still cant roll from belly to back - doesnt even attempt bc he loves being on his belly now LOL

She never really ever liked it. She learned to roll from back to belly first and whenever she wound up on her stomach she would scream. I guess it wasn't until 5 months or so before she was ok being on her stomach.

My DD HATED tummy time...but now she is 4 months old and LOVES it!!! Just keep on trying. One day I put her on her tummy without the support of a boppy or tummy time pillow and she seemed to like it more. I usually put her on her tummy when she is on her gym/activity mat since the mat has fun designs and things hanging from it.
I would also continue doing tummy to tummy. We did this with my DD too.

my DD hates it, hates hates hates it. She lasts about a minute before she's screaming and she usually makes herself upset enough that she spits up big time, so I always try to flip her before she gets to that point. Good to know I'm not alone!

Xavier is 20 weeks today and still HATES TT! Every morning when I wake him up we do TT for about 5 minutes in his crib. He is definitely getting stronger but he rarely lasts longer when he is anywhere else. I tried putting him on the edge of the bed while DH and I are sitting on the floor looking at him and he enjoyed that for a few minutes. On the weekends we do that. My mom does tummy to tummy and he climbs up her body. But gets very frustrated while doing it.
Even though he doesn't like TT I think he will be turning very soon. He's been flipping to the side a lot and very fast.

DS didn't like it either so I started laying him on one of those big exercise balls. It got him off the floor and able to see what was going on. It worked great.

Ds is 3 months and also is not a fan of tummy time, but i now put his mirror in front of him when he does it and he likes it! he will smile and laugh he will last up to 10 mins now!!

DS wasnt crazy about tummy time either and someone suggested propping him up on the Boppy, right under his armpits, and it worked like a charm.

We had a horrendous time with tummy time, DS hated it!!! It was a struggle to get him to do 2-3 minutes at a time. There is hope though - at around 5 months DS started tolerating and on occasion actually liking tummy time! He has gotten so much stronger these last few weeks. Just keep at it, I think as they get stronger it gets easier for them and as they are more awar of their surroundings, they notice tummy time gives them a different perspective on the world.
