Baby and Strong Smelling Pee-Pee.. UTI?
My DD is 7.5 months old and I have noticed the last few days that her pee pee has a strong smell. My SIL in law suggested it may be a UTI.. I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this? Either that their baby did in fact have a UTI or that the strong smell turned out to be something else??

i JUST read an article today about this. they said that although it is not a definite correlation, strong smelling pee can be a sign of a uti. i would def call your ped, you dont want that to go untreated. good luck!

Re: Baby and Strong Smelling Pee-Pee.. UTI?
Not to alarm you, but definitely call your ped. My DD had really strong smelling urine for a day at 9 months and the next day she started what turned out to be 15 days of 104+ fever. The urine stayed very strong smelling. I mentioned it to the ped the first time we went for the fever (day 3) and he sort of blew me off. I knew in my gut it was a UTI. He said they are rare in young kids it was probably a virus etc. Granted she had no other symptoms which is also rare for a UTI vomiting is common. Long story short on day 7 my dad (who is a ped) sent us to the ER for a urine sample and sure enough UTI. It wound up going all the way to her kidneys and had to be treated with IV and IM antibiotics because the fever wouldn't break. We came to find out via other tests that she has some urine reflux into her kidneys which is why she probably got the UTI to begin with.
All that said UTI's in young babies aren't all that common and they usually have other symptoms like fever and vomiting so without those it's probably just a fluke, but I'd call the ped and look out for other symptoms. I SO SO SO wish I had trusted my gut and had her tested earlier!

Thanks! yes I dont want to mess with a possible UTI so I dont want to take chances. She doesnt have any other symptoms but better safe than sorry. Thanks for sharing your story and I hope your LO is well now =))
