Baby Blues / PPD
With DD#1 (6 years ago) I had major baby blues but then I think I had some PPD. Symptoms were night time anxiety, sadness, no bonding with baby, no energy, missed my freedom, still ate like I was pregnant. I think it actually went away or lessened in 6 months.
I want to avoid this with DD#2, We been TTC for 3 years and want this baby more than anything in this world. I feel like I am so much more prepared this time but I don't want that feeling.
Is there anything I can do? Vitamins? I know this may seem gross but was looking into placenta capsulizing heard that helps a lot. What helped you?
Thanks!

Re: Baby Blues / PPD
I did placenta encapsulation with my first and since I have no comparison I can't say it HELPED but I do know that I have a lot of risk factors for PPD and even started having some of the symptoms, however I took my placenta pills daily for like 6-7 months and I didn't end up with anything beyond some mild anxiety the first couple weeks. So I say if you're considering it - go for it!

I'm totally interested in this. Would you mind sharing who you used for the encapsulation?

Baby Blues / PPD
Did you only do the encap or did you use her as a doula too?

Baby Blues / PPD
I am probably going to do the placenta encapsulation. I had PPD after my first and it took a long time to feel better. I went to my midwives for help or resources and they basically brushed it off because I didn't want to hurt my baby - so ridiculous. I definitely think that vitamins or the placenta encapsulation will help - I never thought of it this way before but there has to be a better way to deal with the hormonal cut off that comes from being pregnant and then delivering, it's like your body goes into hormonal shock.

Agreed! It's the sudden drop of hormones, there has to be something. No one ever tells you the after effects, I never knew about this until my DH was researching because he saw me crying all the time. This time I want to be more prepared. I am thinking about it too, but need to do more research.

I didn't have a doula. Only used her for the placenta encap.

Baby Blues / PPD
I had horrible PPD after my first and am so scared of it this time around. But this time I'm on medication and seeing a therapist. I'm also planning to encapsulate the placenta and take that. I'm in the same boat - I've wanted this baby for so so long and this is our last so I really want to enjoy it this time. I felt robbed the first time.

Re: Baby Blues / PPD
Just in case this puts you at ease.... I had PPD after my first child, though without the "detachment" feelings, but I literally cried every day from the day she was born for months to follow.
With my second DD, I had NONE of it. Granted, I had a crazy experience with her and she came very early and spent a long time in the hospital so I cried because of that... but I remember feeling like, "wow, I DEFINITELY had PPD the first time around because I feel so different now".
SO, just wanted to encourage you that even if you had it the first time there's no reason to think you'll definitely have it again!! It's good that you're staying on top of it but maybe you'll luck out and have no issues at all.

Thank you for this...I feel like I am more prepared this time I am older and this is my 2nd, My family has a history of depression and anxiety and I just don't want to take a chance. Especially I will be home with a newborn during winter months as well I know that might trigger something...but good to know it didn't happen with you 2nd time around. Thanks again!
