Baby blues or PPD?
I feel EXTREMELY guilty for feeling sad. I have the easiest baby ever. He never cries, latches on like a pro and was only waking up once a night since coming home from the hospital...
From day one, I've been feeling overwhelmed and sad. The fact that he's an "easy" baby has made me feel very guilty and even more sad for feeling sad. It's a vicious cycle.
Now this week, he has started sleeping through the night for 8 hour stretches. I should be jumping for joy, but instead now I have crying episodes throughout the day and my sadness and guilt has gotten worse.
Is this just baby blues or ppd? I havent told anyone but DH and he's been very supportive throughout the whole thing. He cooks, cleans and takes care of the 1st and last feeding. This is making me feel even more guilty that I'm bothering him with my sadness.
Any tips on getting out of this funk? The only time I'm not feeling sad is when Im doing schoolwork but that's bc Im concentrating on the papers/homework (Im taking 4 online grad courses to complete my dual MHA).
Please tell me I'm not a whiny beyotch

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
Don't feel guilty or upset with yourself for feeling this way! It's so normal! Postpartum hormones are CRAZY!! I don't have personal experience with PPD, but if you are feeling sad just about all day every day, I would suggest you talk to your OB about it. They deal with this stuff all the time, it's very common, so don't feel guilty about it or like you are a bad mother in any way! The best thing you can do for your baby is reach out and get help for yourself. I hope you start to feel better soon!!

I couldn't have said it better.
With DS #1 I had the baby blues for a good 6 weeks but I did speak to my OB and he asked me a few questions and determined it was no more than the baby blues but he did tell me if I continued to feel that way that I should tell him again. Everntually it subsided and I really started enjoying my DS #1. I'm now 4 weeks post partum and just started feeling better from my baby blues with DS #2. It's natural to feel overwhelemed and remeber your hormones are ALLL over the place.
Talk to your OB but also know it's natural to feel the way you do at least for a while until your body readjusts.

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
How many weeks PP are you? I was extremely sad after I had my DS. I cried everynight for no reason. Sounds horrible but all I wanted was my old life back. It is a horrible feeling to feel so alone and depressed. My DH and MIL helped me so much, but I was still sad. DS was not an easy baby and was up every two hours at night to eat. I had no sleep. I started felling better around 5 weeks PP. I was still stressed and tired but not so depressed. I think if your really feeling bad after that point you should talk to your doctor. I have a friend who at PP really bad and she said she didn't want to even hold her baby and kept getting thoughts of running away. She is normally a happy person and her personality did a 360. She had to get professional help.

Talk to your OB. From what I understand it's very common to feel this way after birth, especially after the first child.
Lots and lots of hugs!

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
Talk to your OB for sure, but know that this sounds totally NORMAL! I remember the first month randomly crying. There was a specific song on DD's swing that would make me cry automatically! And she was a super-easy baby It's all hormones
Hang in there

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
I wasn't sad...but for the first 2.5 months I felt like /i was losing my mind...and my husband. we bickered constantly! I let DS relax while I did everything bc he was working...but looking back...I should have let him do more...bc even though I wasn't working...I was on maternity leave and NEEDED time to myself to recover & SLEEP.

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
talk to your ob. I just did at my 6 week and got a name of someone to talk to and she prescribed me zoloft. I ended up not taking the zoloft. I was in bad shape weeks 1-2 postpartum. weeks 3,4,5 I was ok and then week 5,6 i was a wreck. I'm feeling better now (week 8) I did have an extreme situation where my twins were in the nicu for a month. either way it sucks, I felt so sad and then felt soooo guilty for feeling so sad these hormones are crazy. talk to someone. it does get better

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
I am no doctor, but it sounds like the baby blues to me....if I am right, it will go away with some time, all your hormones are still going crazy! Good luck and I hope you feel better! advice: keep busy and don't watch TLC with that pampers commercial!

Re: Baby blues or PPD?
I think its the blues, your hormones are trying to go back to normal. I was the same way, I would cry for no reason, I did not want to be alone. What really helped me was getting out of the house. The supermarket and BRU was my best friend. I felt so much better going out for a little. Bundle the baby up and go for a walk around the block. Now is the perfect time before it gets very cold. Also, taking a shower and doing my hair and a little make up made me feel a lot better too.
Feel Better!
