Baby Clothes- crashing from pregnancy board

I am a little clueless when it comes to clothes and I am trying to figure out what I need in newborn sizes (the baby is expected to be around 6 lbs) vs 3 months +.

I thought that babies wear onesies at all times and under the clothes. Is this true, or do you put the baby in those one piece "sleeper" button down outfits without a onesie underneath??

In the first week or so, do they even wear onesies when the umbilical cord is still there? If not, I probably wouldn't want any newborn onesies anyway.

IF you are buying the side snap shirts, which pants are you going to put the baby in with the side snap shirts??

Thanks for the help! I am trying to figure out what I plan on dressing the baby in for the first few weeks!! (due in mid Feb).

Thank you! (i posted this in pregnancy & parenting)

Re: Baby Clothes- crashing from pregnancy board

My daughter was born in July. Because she was always in central ac, she really just wore pajamas. She was 8lbs. 8oz. so she really was out of newborn right away. I have sooo much clothes she never even got to wear. I bought a lot of onesies, but because she was mostly in pjs, she really didn't wear them right away.

Everyone is different...I always have a onesie under her PJs...

DD was born 9.9 lbs so she went straight to 3mos clothing and size 1 Diapers...the size 1 didn't have that umbilical cord cut out so I just had to roll the diaper so the cord was exposed, I put a onesie and PJs on her and she was fine.

Don't buy too many NB clothes IMO.

Re: Baby Clothes- crashing from pregnancy board

DS was born almost a year ago and his umbilical cord didnt fall off for 3 weeks. The first month he was really only in pajamas, (sleep and plays). Then I put him in more outfits. He was born 7lbs 4oz, so for the first month he wore newborn size.

By the time I put him in a onesie after the cord fell off, he had to wear 0-3months/3months same thing.

ds was born 7lb 6oz - he went right into 0-3 month clothes, and stayed there for 2 months. He also went right into the size 1 diapers. the nurse said he was inbetween and preferred going larger and folding it down.

I remembe when he was born in the spring he had sleepers with a onesie underneath. In the summer we still had him in sleepers overnight cause of the ac

Re: Baby Clothes- crashing from pregnancy board

my kiddies were in NB for the first 2 months (carters brand at least - which is also my fav...best feel, best wear, best accurate sizing) so def get a couple..

I also always put on onesies (also only carters brand here) under the pajamas and clothes until they grew out of them at 2 yrs old! I like that they dont get draft up the back

but the first month I think they were in PJs 24-7...it is just easier and they are in them only a couple of hrs between the spit up and poop/pee explosions...lol

DS is 10m and has always worn onesie under clothes, or solo in the hot summer.

He wore a gown with mittens and socks, everyday for the first 3 months. I found clothes to be a waste for the day to day

Re: Baby Clothes- crashing from pregnancy board

every child and every parent is different.

i had two summer babies (July & Aug)

with DS he wore onsies under clothes during the winter or just a onsie w/ shorts during the summer until he was out of 12 month clothing.

w/ my DD she hardly ever, wore onsies. plain or designed.

my DD hates to wear socks, where as my son LOVED to wear socks.

DS was 7.7 when he was born and was in newborn for about a month before he went to 0-3

DD was 6.7 and she was in newborn for about a month as well and then she just got fat and went straight to 3-6 months.

it will come naturally to you... there is NO WRONG way to do anything.. everyone just has THEIR way

DD wears two onesies a day (at least). During the day I keep her in cotton feetie pajamas with a onesie underneath. At night, it is a fleece feetie pajama with a onesie underneath. She wore a onesie even before her cord fell off, I felt it protected her from the other clothes rubbing on it.

She was born at 7lbs and was in newborn sizes for about two months! LOL

The only side snap shirts I have, came with pants with the feet on them.

Someone told me to get those side snap shirts, too for when the umbilical cord fell off. I had a hard time finding pants sold alone in a NB or 0-3 month size, so I just used pants from the Carter's sets sold together. It was a shirt, pants with feeties, and a little knit jacket. I bought a few of those, and that was all he wore in the first week or so.

Carter's Take Me Home Sets

After the first week, I realized that he onesie didn't really affect the umbilical cord, so we started putting onesies on him. Other han that, it was fleece feeties, sleep and plays, and knit 2 piece outfits for a long time. Comfy stuff!

Re: Baby Clothes- crashing from pregnancy board

dd was born in June.
They measured her larger than what she was.
they thought she was going to be mid 8s but she was really 6lbs range.
she was able to wear newborn clothes.
newborn onesies are really tiny and she out grew them within 3 weeks. I only had them bc they were given to me. She stayed in newborn reg clothes for a few weeks. since it was the summer we kept her in onesies during the day and nightgowns or zipup pjs at night swaddled.
