Baby found at North Shore hospital (alive!)
I do commend the mom for doing the right thing.
I cant imagine what would make a mother do such a thing. What pain and sadness she may be feeling, or completely overwhelmed....
It's nice to hear this news story and hear that the baby is alive and well.
She had even called the hospital asking for help.
Here's the story

I agree! The only reason I ever heard of this program was when I was waiting in the car for my brother in a plumbing store and I saw a faded sign about it... it struck my attention and I thought the same as you - this needs to be on billboards!! You hear too much about abandoned baby's nowadays!
Here is the article from News 12:
Newborn girl abandoned in Manhasset hospital bathroom Play the video (03/01/07) MANHASSET - Nassau police say a newborn baby was abandoned in a Manhasset hospital Thursday morning, but its mother did not break the law.
According to police, a woman left her one-day-old girl in a restroom on the labor and delivery floor at North Shore University Hospital just after 9 a.m. Police say the woman contacted the Children of Hope Safe Haven Program before giving birth to the 6-pound, 2-ounce girl in her home, and was instructed to leave the infant at the hospital. Authorities say the woman abided by a New York state law, which allows new mothers to legally leave their babies in the hands of a responsible adult, rather than abandon it. Police also say the baby is doing well.
A mother who participates in the Children of Hope program has 24 hours to reverse her decision and reclaim the child. Children of Hope can be reached at 1-877-796-HOPE.

Yes, it should definately be more publisized.
I feel so bad for the baby and also for the mother. She must feel terribly lonely

I feel bad for the mom, but so happy that this baby will have a chance to have a good life.
