baby Furniture vs baby bargins book

the book seems so helpful with everything BUT furniture! this seems to be the one thing unless you spend a small fortune you aren't getting anything even decent.

Do you actually believe this book?

I do believe it. They give some brands that are cheaper good ratings...For example, IKEA has a high rating and is cheap.

Also some of the Graco cribs and cribs at BRU and BBB are less expensive with good ratings.

All cribs are safe, so it's really just about quality of wood, style, etc. and figuring out what is important to you.

Oh, and I got a crib with an A rating that was less than 500, so it's possible!

I did use this book to help purchase our furniture. I would take it with a grain of salt. If it were me I might let something like quality (scratches easily etc.) slide more easily than safety issues. We saw a cute cheaper set at BRU, i forget what brand. When I looked it up the brand had MAJOR safety recalls. I did not feel comfortable buying this brand after that.

We decided to go with Babi Italia---Eastside Collection. Got an A in Baby Bargains. We got the lifetime crib, 6 drawer dresser, changer/dresser combo, nightstand and bed rails (to turn into full size bed). The total was $2000. However, we waited for a BRU coupon for $350 off (coupon was for this set specifically) and got the BRU cc and saved 10%. In the end spent $1500 with tax. For the look and quality we thought this was a very good price.

Re: baby Furniture vs baby bargins book

We consulted Baby Bargains, and since we're on a budget and wanted something SAFE and STURDY, we went with a Graco Crib...which gets an "A" in their book.

Their biggest beef is the use of pine wood which scratches easily...which isn't going to deter me from a crib.

I think the book is a good reference point, but you have to decide which features are most important to you.

Last time, with DD, we bought a cheap Delta crib...and I HATED it...DD was in a twin bed at 2 and we tossed it....so I wanted the opinion of someone who'd done the research. In the end, we weren't going to spend $600+ on a crib, so we went with the one that got good reviews in the book AND from the people who already own one on the store website.

see i thught the book was helpful - i got the nursery 101 collection from walmart for $250 including, crib, dresser, and changing table - it is study - had an A rating - the same manufacturere makes the graco crib and other end brands - yes it is not as polished as the expensive set we bought my son but it is sturdy. You can seee the screws on the ends - my son's you can't. but it will work for the next couple of years

i was loking at the delta line and the baby bargains book said it was terrible and when i saw in person i agreed.

We followed the rating in the book and got Munire and I am thoroughly disappointed with my furniture and the customer service of Munire. I would not recommend them to anyone. Chat Icon

Re: baby Furniture vs baby bargins book

I trusted the book with a lot of safety type things and what works best.

Furniture though IMO is different bc they are all safe. It comes down to preference ON style and such. I did not really even look into furniture in the book.
