Baby measuring big?
I was told I have Gestational Diabetes. My numbers were borderline, but I am still being treated for it. So far, my numbers have been very low.
I'm 31w, 1d.
I went to the High-risk dr today. Good news is that they said my sugar levels are great. Sono looked fine, but the dr said the baby is measuring big (over 4 lbs). He said it could be because of the GD, but since my sugar levels are so low, it's puzzling. He is not alarmed by it, he just wants to do a sono in 2 weeks from now instead of 4. So now I'm freaking I'm going to have a 10 lb baby. I know sonos are not 100% accurate on weights, but it does concern me. I don't know what else to do, I'm following this diet, I actually LOST 4 lbs since my last OB appt. I asked if he meant that there was some defect and he said no, when he says big, he means just the potential for a "fat baby" is there. I just feel I cannot get a break, always something to worry about. Has anyone been told their baby was measuring big?

Re: Baby measuring big?
The way they measure baby (lbs) never seems to be accurate, there are few posts on here somewhere were girls where saying how off dr. weight measurement was. Don't worry about it, if you are progressing fine overall.

Re: Baby measuring big?
My son was measuring two weeks ahead the entire pregnancy....I was induced two weeks late and he was born at 10lbs (c-section)
This baby at the 32 week sono was measuring 6lbs (most at this point are in the 4s) I asked the doctor if there is anything I do to produce such big babies - or anything I should stop doing and he said no - we can't control how big the baby is.
Keep in mind that the sonos can be off a pound either way! Try not to stress since there really isn't much you can do about it!

Thanks ladies.
Diana, wow, 10 lbs! I know, I have read that those sonos have a margin of error.

Honestly, that doesn't sound THAT big to me. I had mine with Ryan at 32 wks and he was 4lb 5oz, born at 7lb 8oz. I don't think you're getting a 10lb baby - but I'm no doctor.

Were they concerned about the size?

not yet..they'll know more when i go for the next one on monday. He was measuring fine and on schedule until that sono..soi think maybe he just had a growth spurt...LOL
my dr. was concerned for me saying that if he has broad shoulders they can get stuck or fractured coming through the birth canal so we're going to see if a csection is in order. I hope not..i'd like to try on my own first.

Gotcha. I know I'm having a c-section, so I don't think that is the issue. You might be able to go vaginally. Part of me hopes these sonos are not accurate with regard to this!

If you know you are having a c-section I wouldn't worry at all...you'll just have more baby to kiss if the baby is big!

I agree! DS was born on his due date at 9lbs 14oz. He was just a big boy...I did not have GD but we believe my family just produces big kids! I opted for a c-s because of his size and my sonos were accurate but I didnt have a growth sono until 38 weeks. My SIL was very weight conscience with her 2nd because she was afraid of a c/s she only gained 16lbs had her DS 2 weeks early and he was over 9lbs. Some of us are just meant to have big babies....but darn they are cuties!!!
Dont worry!!!

Re: Baby measuring big?
at 32 weeks my ds was estimated at 6lbs... he was born at 36.5 weeks and was 8lbs 5.5oz.... if he had gone full term he would have been over 10lbs...
i was told that the size of your children has alot to do with how big your husband was when he was born... whether it is true or not i dont know.. when i was born i was 8lb 9 oz and dh was 8lb 8oz so it could go either way
if it makes you feel better my ob at the time (who i am not using for this preg) told me to take up smoking for the remainder of my pregnancy

Re: Baby measuring big?
Mine measured big, I think it was 7lbs 13oz at 34 weeks and then 8lbs 14 oz (around there?? lol it wasn't too long ago and I can't remember jeez) - at 37 weeks. I delivered at 39 weeks via c-section because of his size and position (he was over my pelvic bone not in the right position to come out vaginally) and when he was born he was 9lbs 3 ounces.
