Baby measuring BIG

Had a growth sono yesterday at 38 weeks and the baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead at 8 pounds 9 ounces...YIKES....I mentioned the massive itch that has consumed my body for the last 6 days and they told me to go to a dermatologist. I told them I think I have ICP and the only way to diagnose it is a special blood test. My blood sugar was high again. She thinks I have GD and didn't know it. So she sent me off to L&D to get monitored and have more blood work. And not to except anything else. The two things that cure both problems I have is to deliver the baby. But they won't even think about it for another week. I was in tears at the doctor's office. My depression and anxiety came back full force this past week and I have done nothing but cry for days. They don't seem to think that is a problem. Of course all of my tests came back normal and home I went. I had been up for 22 hours by the time I got home. So now I have to call a dermatologist and spend money I don't have to be told there is nothing wrong. Dr in L&D thinks I have PUPPS. But I don't have the usual symptoms for that. The one place that doesn't itch is my belly. No bumps, no rash. Sorry for the long winded vent, but I don't understand why doctors would put a patient through all this when they suspect there is something wrong. My GD friends were all induced a week or two early. And the itch problem can be life threatening to the baby. ***....I am so afraid now that I am going to have a lot of problems with post partem depression. Thanks for listening..Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Baby measuring BIG

Please don't panic about the baby's size... my doc kept telling me that my baby was soooo big, measuring 42 weeks at 38 weeks and that his head was HUGE... I got so nervous that I wasn't going to be able to deliver naturally. Well, they induced me 2 weeks early and he was only 8 lbs. and I pushed him out in 3 pushes!!!

Re: Baby measuring BIG

dont worry too much about size. at 30 weeks they told me almost 4.5lbs!! when the average is 3. at 34 weeks he was just at 6 or estimated to be at 6. I was measuring 3 weeks ahead at both visits.

My last visit last week dr. pressed on my belly and was like "oh..maybe 6.5lbs" and that was 38 weeks. U would have thought i was having a line backer by the reactions of the sono techs. they freaked me out.

I dont know why though at 38 weeks they wouldnt deliver you now if you may have GD. you're full term now.

I hope some relief is in site for you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Baby measuring BIG

Chat Icon Chat Icon I wouldn't give much merit to the size of the baby. With my first ds doctor told me at 38 weeks baby was 8lbs 13oz - 3 weeks later I delivered a 7lb 10oz boy. They are just estimating.

Hang in there you are in the home stretch

Re: Baby measuring BIG

I am so afraid I am not going to be able to deliver this baby naturally. I told the doctors from the beginning that I didn't want a c-section unless it was for an emergency or if there was something wrong with the baby. They were totally sympathetic with it then and said we would take care of it if the time came. Well the time is here and they don't seem to give a rats a*s about it now. I am seriously depressed now and I have a feeling it is going to carry over after the baby is born..

They were following guidelines...If they suspect I have GD, they should be more worried about the baby and myself instead of some f'ing guide line. They better pray nothing happens to the baby or me because of it....

Thanks for all the good thoughts...

Re: Baby measuring BIG

Hang in there. At my 36 wks the tech said my baby was measuring 7.5, which would make the baby almost 10+ full term. PLUS, I have GD... I'm already late. Scheduled for an induction on Sunday - a wk past my due date.
Some doctor's just jump because of "guidelines"... some are more realistic & pay attention to the patient & case by case. Put trust in your doctor's. Chat Icon

Re: Baby measuring BIG

Hang in there, this is the toughest part of your pregnancy. Like other posters have said don't give much merit to the size they are guesstimating. The day my DS was born the Drs estimated he was 10.5 pounds from the sono, he was 8lb10oz.

Also, I know you are anxious to deliver, but there can be major heath risks in inducing early, the baby does need that time in utero. I'm sure your Drs have your best interest in mind Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Went to the dermatologist today and he thinks I have PUPPS without the rash. It is kind of rare to not have the rash but it does happen. I am on a steroid cream. I am praying that it works. I need to sleep. Leave it to me to be the odd ball not to get a rash with it...

Re: Baby measuring BIG

I have PUPPS and its horrible the itching is so bad and I have the worst carpul tunnul and with both ive been begging to have this baby already bc i feel tortured every day. I am 38 weeks and still nothing. The dr's wont do anything until medically necessary for the baby, they dont really care if you are uncomfy. If you had choleostasis then it would be harmful to the baby BUT that would have shown up in your blood test.

Re: Baby measuring BIG

I'm sorry you are going thru this but like the other girls said, dont worry about the baby's size. Its not an exact science.

Thats what I think I have. But there is one test that needs to be done to confirm it 100 percent and it takes over a week to get the results... I am 38 weeks now and I am just so done. I think it is medically necessary to deliver this baby now. If he is measuring this big now, what is he going to be in 2 weeks. Then I am upping my risk for a c-section...Not what I want...

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon As PPs said, growth sonos can be way off. If you're induced now and your body isn't ready, that will also increase your chances of a c-section. Hang in there. You're almost at the end.

Re: Baby measuring BIG

the size thing - let that worry fall to the wayside. the DAY i was induced - i was at the OB (sent to be induced 1 day early because of low fluid)... The sonographer told me i had a 10 pound baby. Emma came out at 8 pounds, 1 ounce....WAYYYY off.

The depression thing. DO NOT hesitate to talk to your doctor, the girls on here, or ANYONE. FM me if you want - i had/have it and am on medication. There is NO SHAME in it, especially with your past history of depression (and mine as well). It is possible to deal with and you need to know NOW that we are here for you!!!!! You will NOT go through this alone!

Thank you for all the positive thoughts. I am trying to take things hour by hour now. I slept last night for the first time in a week thanks to the steroid cream the dermatologist gave me yesterday. I woke up at 6 am, but I slept from 11pm last night. Hopefully it will be another good night. I think I was feeling really bad from lack of sleep...Chat Icon
