Baby Modeling - My Experience (so far)
Hi Ladies -
First of all, thanks so much for all of the kind words
I have been getting a ton of FM's asking how I got DD started, so here's my story...
Everyone thinks their kid is cute ans I am no different! I saw a lot of posts from other ppl on here who had DCs who modeled so I asked them the same questions you asked me. I emailed 5ofClubs and she was super nice and explained that she used Product Model Management.
So, I Googled them and submitted a few of DD's picks online. A couple days later they called me and asked me to come to a "request open call." Different from a regular open call bc you have to be invited to go. So off we went! Schlepped all the way into the city, waiting online with about a hundred other kids and had a 30 second, maybe even 20 second meeting with them and that was it. I am not exaggerating about the time either. They said they would get back to me if they were interested. A few days later, they called and said they wanted to sign her. I was so excited! They emailed me an 11 page contract and I almost signed it EXCEPT on the last page it said that you had to have your kids picture on the website (which was fine with me), but it would cost $175 because they re-touch them!! I know it's a good company, but DH and I decided that we didn't want to spend so much money on something that could go absolutely nowhere. Product also only does print and once you sign the contract with them you can't use anyone else.
So...defeated and sad, DH remembered someone his brother went to school with whose parent's owned a modeling agency. So we got the number and DH called. It's actually a management company and they they work with a bunch of different agencies. There was no money to pay and they didn't even ask to see her. They just asked us to email them so pics and her stats. It is Mollo Management. You can Google them for their contact info. I don't have it on me.
Unless your job is flexible its REALLY hard. My last job was really flexible so it wasn't a big deal. My new job isn't. I played hookey Friday morning so I could take her to the audition. I only did that bc it was for a national ad and I lucked out bc the shoot would up being on a Sunday. I honestly am not sure what I will do the next time they call. I usually get the calls for auditions the night before anytime from mid afternoon until 9pm!! And most of the time the shoots are the next day. It's A LOT of schlepping into NYC for 5 minute auditions... You get lots of calls. I have gone to multiple auditions in a week and also have gone as long as 2 months without being contacted...
We have been doing it since August and she has been on 5 auditions and got 2 jobs out of it. The pay is usually $75 and hour, but sometime they will pay you a flat fee. It depends on the way they are going to use the photos.
Hope that helps!!
ETA: This original post is from 2008. DD does not model anymore. It was just too time consuming.

Thank you Christine...it was very helpful! I have thought have submitting pictures of TJ but I think it would still be hard even though I only work p/t. Something to think about.

Child modeling is not for us, but I wanted to ask if your DD was in a recent pampers commercial? I could swear I see here in this one add. I asked in another thread, but I'm guessing your never saw it. In any case, you DD is so cute and belongs in pictures.

Thank you for the information. It wouldn't be a venture that I could realistically take on but I find the process interesting. I bet your DD will get more of the national jobs!!!! She sure is cute!

Re: Baby Modeling - My Experience (so far)
I know this is old but awesome information! We did sign with Product for my first DD, we just chose not to put her pic on the website and pay that $. We got a lot of calls and had the same experience as far as the short notice etc. She made some decent money but in the end, working f/t made it really hard. My mom brought her a few times, I took off a few times and we both went, or DH and my mom went. the schlepping into the city was REALLY difficult. Good luck though, it was super fun!
