Baby monitor--small house/condo/apartment??

We live in a two bedroom 900 sq ft coop.

I was planning to register for a video monitor bc I saw my friends (lives in a house) and liked it.

Do I need this considering my house is small and baby's room is across the hall from me? TY

My house is small and I had a video monitor from day 1 with DS. Best invention ever, can't live without it.

Makes it so much easier to see when he is crying/whining if he really needed me or if he was just fussing.

Or if he slept later then I was used to I could peek at the monitor and make sure he was ok.

I got one and live in only a slightly bigger apartment. My reasoning was that we'll likely do CIO with the baby when they are older and I thought it would be helpful to be able to just look at the video monitor to make sure that there isn't anything seriously wrong with the baby vs. crying because he/she wants us to come pick him/her up.

Absolutely. Both of my boys are just across the hall from me but I can't see through doors Chat Icon so this is the next best thing.

Like the PP said - you need it to see if the baby is just fussing, if something is wrong, if the baby is ready to be picked up (or just playing and then you get the baby too early)

It's a must have IMO

we are def. getting a video monitor. we have a cape and our bedroom is downstairs (at the bottom of the stairs) and the LO's nursery will be just at the top of the stairs. it will be nice to see the baby and not have to go upstairs.

I originally used a regular monitor. But DS was such a noisy sleeper, that I was always going into his room to see what was going on and I usually woke him up. I bought a video monitor and it has been a lifesaver. We live in a small 2 BR apt and his BR is right next to ours. IMO is is worth the money...

Re: Baby monitor--small house/condo/apartment??

DD still sleeps in our bedroom which is on the main floor. The wall of our bedroom is shared with the wall of our living room where we spend the majority of our time.

I only had a sound monitor since I didn't figure on needing a video monitor.

BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!

You spend every 3 seconds going into wherever your baby is sleeping and sticking your ear right by their nose to hear if they're breathing. You look at them all the time to see if their chest is moving. You hear squeaks and you wonder if they're suffocating. Every single movement and noise, you wonder and worry and worry.

I got the cheapest Summer Infant video monitor out there -- the black & white 5" screen one with the day/night feature (it's $99 but I had a 20% off coupon so I got it for $80). Best $80 I EVER spent. I put a label on it that says "Megan Television" and DH and I can sit in our living room and stare at her sleeping for hours (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration, but we do sit and watch her). Sometimes during daytime naps, she just looks at the monitor while playing with her wubbanub. It's adorable. Then, she drifts to sleep.

You're supposed to put the baby down while awake but drowsy, so inevitably you'll hear noises or some crying (she usually cries for about 30 seconds before she falls asleep) and you're going to not know if it's an emergency or just self-soothing to sleep if you can't see the baby.

Get the video monitor. Even the cheap one. It's worth it.

my place is only a little bigger than yours, and my friend had the summer infant video monitor at her house. I'm planning on getting that.

I absolutely agree. DS's bedroom is right next to mine and I still have the video monitor. It gives me a piece of mind and I am able to see what he is doing while in his crib.

We live in a small one bedroom & DS sleeps in the same room with us - acutally he sleeps in our bed but thats neither here nor there Chat Icon

Anyway, we have and LOVE the Avent SCD600 vidoe monitor. It's just easier to relax when I can see what is going on instead of running in when he makes a sound.

Plus, we use it at my moms for when he sleeps there - the bedrooms are on the 2nd floor, so it comes in handy.
