Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
This is the second for me (my son is almost 8 from a previous marriage) and the first for my SO. My sister and his sister's are planning on throwing me a baby shower. Is this tacky? I just always read that you don't have a shower past the first baby, but since it's his first, I don't know if the etiquette rulles are different. I just don't want people "talking" you know?

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
Absolutely not tacky, especially now days. My DD will be 2 when this baby is born, and I am having another shower. Most of my friends have had showers for every baby too.

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
Since your son is 8, I wouldn't worry having another shower.... I think most people would expect you to since it's been a while.
I will not be having another shower...My DS will be 21 months when the baby is born. I'm pretty sure that our family and friends are sick of us. In the last 2.5 years we've had so many occasions where people gave us gifts - I graduated with my MBA, bridal shower, wedding, baby shower, christening, 1st birthday and DH graduated law school.

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
I think it's wonderful!! My sister's boys are 9 years apart and we threw her a 2nd shower - although it was on a much smaller scale than the first. She deserved it!
Enjoy it!!

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
I had one shower with Emma. I couldn't have imagined having a second shower with Jeremy or a 3rd with this baby since i already have all the things I would need from my 1st child.
HOWEVER, being that it has been 8 years I think you deserve a shower

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
My kids are almost 7 years apart and I had a 2nd shower. (My 1st child was also from a previous marriage, so it was my DH's 1st child as well)

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
This is the first for your husband and his side of the family NOT TACKY AT ALL.
Plus it has been 8 years! There is so much new stuff out, different safety regulations, etc. Nothing wrong with it at all IMO.
I threw a small baby shower ( a "Sprinkle") for my sister. Her son was almost 4 and she was having a girl. It was just for close family and a few very close friends.
And if anyone does think it is tacky ... well screw 'em. They don't have to come attendance is optional

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
My DD will almost be 7 by the time # 2 is born, and i know there is stuff that we are going to need. I did save some things, but i also got rid of some stuff b/c we were living with my mom, then had a small apartment, and had no where to keep everything. With DD i had 2 showers, 1 big one at a hall, and then a smaller one with just women. Im thinking probably a small one wiht maybe 15 girls this time around.

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
I think since your oldest is 8 AND its the first baby for you and DH, then having a second baby shower would be fine.
I think the tacky issues arrises when you have kids very close together and have two showers. On the flip side, a baby should always be celebrated.

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
Well I am the sister that Mable03 threw ths sprinkle for and I have to tell you that at first I was not happy that people were being asked to purchase things again after 4 years ago they attended my DS baby shower and my sister made me register at BRUS And everything was purchased I was so shocked. But i have to tell you , It was family and close friends and you know how our busy lives are that everyone attended and were very happy, generous with the gifts and just happy to celebrate the coming of my DD that everyone was having a great time, Granted some people chipped in for a large item but you know it was so nice. I really enjoyed it , and you know Why not we would attend if one of our family members or close friend was having another baby shower for there 2nd Child. Just a couple of things that made me feel better about the whole thing my sister made invitaiton that had it A SPRINKLE TO CELEBRATE THE ARRIVAL OF MY DD. And you know enjoy being PG and since it been 8 yrs its been long enough and you have one and enjoy yourself and youre DH (hes like mine ) should enjoy the moment and celebrate .Please let me know what you wind up doing ??

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
Since your son is 8 years old, I'm am pretty sure that you are going to need things. Since this is a second marriage and a baby 8 years later you should absolutely have another shower - no question. If I were invited to a shower for someone like you - I would be glad to go. It's such a wonderful happy time and why shouldn't you, new hubby and son enjoy the birth to the fullest. Since your son is 8, I bet he will ove feeling like he can help unpack and set all the new stuff. Good Luck and have a great time.

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
I think with the 8 year gap between your kids, it's not tacky, and your DH's female relatives will be happy for the chance to celebrate a new arrival to their family too.

Re: Baby Shower For 2nd Baby
Its being thrown for you. Lay back and enjoy. People want to do it for you.
How many showers have you attended in the last 8 years? Exactly, go take away someone else's Saturday

Since there is such an age difference, I think a second shower is very appropriate! Enjoy it!!
