Baby's first flight
I am so nervous about flying to California with Jordana this Friday. Our flight leaves at 7 am and we don't have an extra seat for her on the way there, and the flight is booked.
I have read the past posts on this and I am not going to board early. But she has been so unpredictable with sleeping lately.
She used to be so easy and predictable, but now I have no idea what is going on. She slept well last night but the night before was a nightmare.
I definitely plan on nursing her whenever she gets fussy- but I am still nervous.
She is such a good baby I but still... I am worried.

Good luck - I'm sure she'll be fine! I don't know if she uses a pacifier but maybe consider bringing one even if she doesn't normally take it.

Re: Baby's first flight
I flew to Ireland when DD was 5 months old. DH could not come with me so it was all up to me to entertain! She was great on the way over as it was a night flight and she slept for 4 hours in one of those box in the wall cribs. On the way back she was more active so I spent a lot of time walking and entertaining her....I didnt pre board as it was easier walk with her in the terminal than the airplane.
On the flight back I had to ask for assistance from the air hostess but going over there they were great and offered assistance. So be ready to stick your neck out and demand some attention as you may not get it otherwise...believe me its not easy taking down a bag from the overhead bin with a baby strapped to you!
Ask for extra blankets when you get on as it can get chilly in the cabin and they run out quickly.Bring some toys to entertain her and definitely a few pacifiers. Nursing can be difficult in the seats as they are quite small but you will manage and the airline blankets provide good cover.
Dont plan on getting any sleep yourself!
I even had to contend with an explosive diaper mid way through the flight so that was fun!
Good luck..hope it all goes well.

You better check with the airlines. I heard pacifiers are one of the things recently not allowed.

Re: Baby's first flight
Don't worry about it! Noah and I are flying to NY tomorrow and I am not even packed yet (its 6 pm and we are flying out at 10.30 am!!!)
Just relax and look at it as a long day out, thats what I did first time around when we flew to NY when he was 4 months old (my husband hasn't flown with us, its just been me alone) and it will be fine!!
The air hostesses will help you if you need to! Don't worry about it!!

Re: Baby's first flight
We just flew with Andrew to Aruba (4+ hour flight) and it wasn't terrible. Every mom at the airport gave me the advice to drug him with Benadryl to make him sleepy but I didn't agree with that. He was fussy on and off but overall was OK.

Re: Baby's first flight
Just remember that every baby will get fussy and just ignore any rude looks from people or comments. When I first flew with Jack and he cried most of the light, I knew there was nothing I could really do about it, so I just thought of it as sweet revenge for all of the people I've had to sit next to with the worst BO on many flights I have taken in my life.
