Babysitting service

I am wondering how all you have used babysitter found them? Is there a prof service on LI that anyone reccomends?
I am thinking of this because yesterday I was so, so sick my husnabd had to call in to work. I think may have had food poisoning.
I have never has a sitter for my two boys. My oldest turned 4 at the end of Aug, and my youngest is 21 months. Any approx on costs? Also I am not looking for set days or evenings. Is this available?
Also, I am looking for a company that does backround checks, CPR certified,etc.

Call you locals library, high school guidance counselor office to see if they can recommend someone.

Our babysitters are mainly family & friends who we swap with, but I've gotten daycare teachers.

Instead of giving them an amount, ask them what they charge. From what I've seen in my area, daycare teachers all charge $9-11/hour.

I use family and just recently started using my neighbor's daughter. We pay $10/hr.

I have heard many people discuss sittercity.com and have looked at the site but have never used them. Sitters are so hard to find-I have trouble thinking about leaving DS with anyone I don't know or get a recommendation from.
Have you joined mothers groups? Maybe someone can give you a local referral?
