Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
So I had my growth sono today - I am 32 weeks. Baby S is measuring 3 weeks ahead of schedule and is 6lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy crapola! Doc said the sono is accurate within a pound (up or down! ) but said she was very confident in her measurements and also can tell he is large by feeling my belly. I am totally shocked because all this time up until the last two weeks I haven't even looked pregnant and now I find out he is huge!
I am now seeing the doc every two weeks and will have another growth sono at 37 weeks and then we will discuss my "options." If he doesn't make an appearance before then.
BP and urine were good and I lost 5 lbs.
We are so not ready!

No, I don't think my dates are off. If anything I thought my due date would be a few days later than it is because my cycles are not 28 days (more like 31-32). Nope, no GD either. Ahh! Just a little chubber I guess!!! Guess I don't have to worry about not having any newborn clothes.

I know, I thought of you as soon as we got the news. Did you have a sono at 32 weeks? Do you remember how big he was?
Miss you on this board. Hope you and little Luca are doing well.

Don't sweat it!!! I just delivered my daughter this past Friday (9/19) and at my last sono on that Tuesday before they told me she was 9lbs7oz. I totally freaked out too but it turned out fine and she was actually smaller then anticipated. I did have a C-section HOWEVER, Emerson was born at only 8lbs8oz. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
I wouldn't worry about it, I am due 10 days after you and just had my growth sono done at 30 weeks and they told me is on the larger side, he's measuring 3 lbs 10 ounces. I definitely feel like he is big already and feel like my belly is getting bigger and bigger, I don't know how he is going to find the room in there!!!! PS I have GD. I posted pics in my album, I feel like I look like I'm 40 weeks

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
the growth sonos are accurate +/- a pound ONLY if you're within the normal growth range... if your baby is at the 95% or higher, the accuracy drops.... and it could be off by 1.5 lbs or more!
always take those growth sono's with a grain of salt

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
Don't worry the growth sonos are a guessing game. I was told 2 weeks before I delivered that the baby was 8 13 and he was only 7 10. No use in worrying about what you can't change. Plenty of people have large babies.

Yep! I had GD and they said if I waited and tried naturally there was a chance she could be close to 10lbs PLUS GD babies tend to have broader shoulders so there was a very good chance if she was big she could become lodged in the birth canal and the only way to get her out would be to basically break her shoulders which just did not sit right with us. So we opted for the C-section because we had to go on the information we had and even though she turned out smaller it was the right choice. She's healthy and was delivered safely and that's all that mattered to us in the end. Good luck with everything!!

Thanks Kristen! I have a gut feeling we may be faced with the same decision and we will have to do what is best for . I'm not thrilled about the prospect of a c-section, but would at least prefer it to be scheduled than wind up having to have an emergency one after going through labor. DH comes from a long line of lumberjack football types and the doc already mentioned the broad shoulders (even though I don't have GD) and the higher risk of trauma in the birth canal when the baby is large. So, we'll see. She definitely wasn't pushing for c-section, but like I said, I just have a gut feeling.
I love your little girl - she is so cute and cuddly!!! Enjoy every moment.

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
I didnt have GD and my DD was 9 14 1/2 and they estimated her to be 9 15. They were right on the money.
I am no preggo with my second and the OB said that I will most likey have another huge baby.
I had a C Section the first time and of course will have another C Section

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
Keep in mind the growth sono's are estimates. At 37 wks, DS was measuring over 7.5 lbs. When he was born at 39 wks, he was 6 lbs 8 oz. For one of my nieces they estimated she would be almost 8 lbs and she was 6 lbs 9 oz. Don't stress yourself out. You'll be ready when he gets here!

I will tell you that the morning of my delivery with DS the high-risk DR measured G at 7lbs 14oz. He was born only a few hours later and was 6lbs 10 oz.

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
How are your belly mesurements? Is your belly measuring ahead or to date?
Growth sonos are extremely innacurate. My midwife doesn't even do them because of this. THey go by the measurement of the uterus ..............Try and relax, you still have a ways to go............

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
Many of the growth sonos seem to be off by a bit. I wouldn't worry.

Re: Back from my growth sono and a bit freaked out!
don't worry so much about the growth sonos - they are notorious for being off... and more than the pound up and down that they promise..
I had an emergency csection due to toxemia. at 3 in the afternoon at the high risk doctor and sono we were told we would be lucky if she was 4lbs 5oz - (that was the most that she could imagine dd being and that was being generous and they were nervous cause the being off by a pound)
9 hours later - out comes dd -- 6 whole pounds and almost 22 inches long.........
