Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
The doc wants us to start him on cereal so next month he will be ready for veggies. I have read so many stories about how parents should wait to introduce any food until 6 months as it decreases the probability of food allergies later in life.
When did you start cereal and when did you graduate to foods (veggies)?

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
we skipped baby foods and went went straight to soft table foods at 7 months old with my first DD and 8 months with my Second DD.
We did try cereal at 5 months old with my first DD but she stopped sleeping through the night when she started it so we dropped it and waited a few months.
My second DD wouldn't even drink breast milk off a spoon before 8 months old. One day at 8 months old she woke up wanted to eat everything so we skipped the baby food.
Our Ped was fine with our decisions and our big girls were never effected from skipping baby food.

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
DS just went to his 4 month well visit and I got the same story. I hear different things but was happy to start him on cereal. He LOVES it. My sister said with her first she waited until 6 months and with the second and different doctor she started also at 4. Some babies get it even earlier if they are drinking more then 30oz/day. Good Luck

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
Started cereal at 4 months, then fruits around 5 months and veggies 2-3 weeks later. DS had “reactions” to green veggies (gas) and peaches (spit up) at first but now at 10 months he is almost completely off baby food and can eat anything ( including those things that he had issues with in baby food), we have not had any “allergic” reactions and he has had nut products, strawberries, eggs, etc.
I heard the same thing about allergies, but I felt that because DH and I have no food issues, nor does anyone in our family (except mild lactose sensitivity which came out at later ages) I didn’t worry too much!

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
My ped said you can start cereal anywhere from 4-6 months. We started Kaydyn just shy of 4 months (about a week). It all depends on what you feel comfortable with. If you want to wait until 6 months, then wait.

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
We tried at 4 months but DD wasn't ready. She just didn't like it and would get fussy when we tried to feed her. We stopped and then restarted again at 5.5 months.
The decision is totally up to you. If you want to start and discover that your DD isn't ready, you can always stop and try again in the future.

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
I started Kristina eating cereal from the spoon at almost 3 months - I figured since she was having cereal in her bottle for the reflux since she was 2 weeks old it didn't matter if I gave her cereal or not.
I got the ok for fruits and veggies at 4 month appt., and ok for meats and yogurts at 6 month appt.

I started solids at 6 months. I skipped cereal. The first food he tasted was homemade sweet potato mixed with EBM.

same schedule with us.
Actually I started cereal 2 weeks before his 3 month B-Day--it helped his BAD sleeping habits.

Re: Back from Ryan's 4 month well visit and I have a question
Cereal at 6 months and veggies began the next week. Our dr said to hold off on fruits because he may like the sweetness over the veggies. But every dr is different.
