Back from the allergist.....

Emma has a strong allergy to dairy, peanuts, and eggs.
The list would be shorter if I told you the things that she isn't allergic to...
I had to break the news to my DH about the dog.

We have to go for a bood test (to find out the depth of the allergies) - I was just wondering - Does anyone know how Quest will draw blood from a 10 month old?

Re: Back from the allergist.....

they draw blood just like they do from adults. from a vein in the arm. my dd had it done at 12 months due to high cholestrol. she really didnt cry at all. i know its rough that she has all those allergies, but at least you know what to stay away from to make her safe and comfortable.

Your DD stayed still while they drew the blood?

yep, my dd stayed still, but my ds also had it done at 12 months, and he did not stay still. so i sat in the chair put him on my lap, and just held him and his free arm, the nurse held the arm they were taking blood from. it was not bad at all. really. its over so quick.

Quest in Babylon was great. kevin has a blood test at 1 year and he didn't even flinch.

It will probably be harder on you that it will be on your little one.

Kevin's allergic to dairy too Chat Icon

Thank you so much for your post! I feel so bad that she has to have a blood test... And even worse that she is allergic to more things than she can eat. Chat Icon

Do you have to carry an EPI pen?

Re: Back from the allergist.....

She may outgrow her allergies- Bryan had an allergy to milk and it was gone by the time he was 12 months.

Yes, we carry an Epi Jr. pen and also children's benedryl in case the reaction is mild.

I'm still new to the whole food allergies thing (Kevin was officially diagnosed last month) but FM if you need to talk or have any questions. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon hope the blood work goes okay. I had to bring Brendan to LabCorp for blood work when he was 3 days old. I held him in my arms and they took the blood from the vein in his arm. the first time the girl blew out his vein because at 3 days old the veins are so tiny. i'm sure it's much easier at Emma's age. i cried, but brendan slept through it! the second time she got it and he still stayed sleeping. it was harder for me to watch than it was for him. he always cried from the heel sticks, but with the vein he was just fine. good luck!

Getting blood is definitely harder on the parents. I had to hold Joseph down for a blood test too at Quest in Huntington. They were really great with him, but it was heartbreaking that I was the one holding him.

Re: Back from the allergist.....

Chat Icon Hi, I know it's hard. My DD Ava just turned 2 and is Peanut Allergic. It is a lifestyle change, but you will get through it. Get a good allergist, and read everything you can-- online and from the library. Being informed is the best thing you can do to protect your child. If you need anyhting, please feel free to fm me.
