Back pain on one side?
I seem to wake up every morning with pain in my left lower back, almost toward my side. Has anybody else experienced this? I am 19 weeks. Also, sometimes I notice that my right side gets numb/tingly. Is this normal? I'm really trying to sleep on my sides instead of on my back, but I don't know if this is causing all these pains. I read about somebody who got a kidney stone while pregnant, and I'm afraid that's what the back pain is from. It usually goes away after a while, with the help of Bengay. Also, I'm really not able to sleep for more than 4-5 hours because of it. Does anybody have any ideas/suggestions/comments?

Re: Back pain on one side?
are you sleeping with a noodle or body pillow? that may help. Also, you would know if you had a kidney stone - holy pain!

Re: Back pain on one side?
Is it on or around your hip/pelvic bones? There are joints in your lower back,--the easiest description is if you took your hands and placed them on your hips and extended ur thumbs in toward your spine, usually around the tips of your thumbs-- called the "SI" joints. They have a long name and I am not sure how to spell it. These joints expand as all the other joints in your body do to conform to your expanding uterus. These joints are sometimes easily inflamed, due to excess work on your feet, a large baby, or just teh excess hypermobility and elasticity of your body. I had to go to P/T this pregnancy and the last for this. Sometimes Tylenol helps, most of the time a heating pad is the only thing that will alleviate it. If you think this might be the area that you are feeling your discomfort, definately ask your Dr. about it specifically. I was forced to push my very large baby (10-5, 23 inches long) and pretty much damaged my back for the long haul. My Dr. did not know that such conditions could exist to such extremes despite my PT's warnings.. HTH
