Back to the Dr. for the 4th time in a week
It's seeming more and more that DD is allergic to most antibiotics.
She has a double ear infection and bronchitis, and she has had a BAD reaction to every antibiotic they have given her.
So, after a weekend "hiatus" to take some steroids to relieve the itching and irritation from all the hives today, we are going back again to see what else we can do.
We'll need to get her allergy tested, but we needed to get these infections cleared up FIRST, which is a double-edged sword...
This whole thing is really freaking me out. Food allergies are mostly avoidable, but antibiotics??? What happens then?

Awww, hang in there. My DH is allergic to penicillian (I'm sure horribly spelled). Its not too bad and a lot of people have that allergy. There is other drugs out there to treat infections.

Believe it or not, penicillin is one of the few we HAVEN'T tried--but DD's Dr. is apprehensive, since so many more kids are allergic to that than other meds. So far she's reacted unfavorably to amoxycillin, Zithromax and Omnicef.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't amoxycillin a form of penicillin? I know that DS is allergic to penicillin and I think because of that, he is not able to have any of the "cillin" medications.
I hope they find something that works for DD!

Re: Back to the Dr. for the 4th time in a week
things will get better. YOu'd mention a skin reaction after the antibiotic for the ear infection. I was warned about that and was given flurodkids (not sure of spelling) fortunatly my DS is not allergic to penicillin bc he has been on it for 3 days and haven't seen any reactions. YOU DC is either allergic to it or just got a reaction from the medicine. I wish you the best! your best bet is to contact the ped and/see an allergist.

Re: Back to the Dr. for the 4th time in a week
Hmm, I'm not sure. My older sister is allergic to penicillin, but she's been able to take amoxicillin. I don't know...it's all very confusing.
We have an appt. to see the allergist in 3 weeks, but I was told not to expect much because they don't have many "good" allergy tests for antibiotics
