Backing up computer files poll
Right now I burn my pictures and music onto data CDs about every 6 months... but yesterday when my computer was broken someone mentioned using an external hard drive. I thought that may be a better idea than the CDs.
What do you all do?

I've been using flash drives for the past year. I have a 1 GB and a 2GB...sooooo much easier than burning CDs! I highly recommend it!

I almost bought one yesterday! Using the CDs is pretty annoying. I don't know anything about them... is there a certain brand that is better to get?

I have SanDisks. I have most of my pictures on CDs, and most of my important documents on the flash.

We bought a 160gb external HD a couple of years ago and use that for both computers, all our music and digital photos too.
I also have all my photos on CD or DVD and my web server.
Feasibly, you should have more than one form of backup because none of them last forever. Even CD's can stop working on you, get scratched, etc.

We went with the external hard drive. You can't beat the amount of memory you'll get an external (300GB for ~$200) versus flashdisks.
The writable cds are only good for about 7 years.

I keep saying I'm going to get an external hard drive, but haven't done it yet so I've been risking it.
