Backup Childcare/Working Moms

If you used the back-up childcare that the company you work for provides, how old was DC when you first used this? My mom takes care of DS(7 months) but sometimes she needs off a day or two and I can't always take off.

My company doesn't provide it - but I started using back-up day care when DS was around 8 months

I haven't had to use mine yet (it's Brighthorizons) but my friend just used it for a week and a half and her DD is 8mos. She had a good experience.

Re: Backup Childcare/Working Moms

Most back up child care places have restrictions on start ages. I think a 7 month old is pretty safe they have a good amount of their vaccinations. I mean you go out in public and to malls which is where a child can catch a lot of things. I would however make sure in flu season they have the flu shot. Just expect a lot of runny noses and minor colds when they first start.
After DS was 18 months I actually placed him in a pre-school program in town (there are not too many that take them that young but look around you never know!) they had a 2 year program that starts them at 18 months it gave my mother at least a few hours to herself and if worst came to worse the schools that offer early childhood programs are like day cares in a way and offer before and after school programs for working parents so you can pay for extended hours on occasion we loved this!

This is the center that my company uses, and from personal experience, they are FANTASTIC!

ETS DS was 8 months when I first brought him there. I think the youngest your child can be for that center is 3 months.
