baked ziti question
Please help a newbie cook
We're having baked ziti for dinner. Things will be hectic tonight so I want to make it ahead of time.
Do I just cook it as I normally would this morning and put it in the fridge? When I want to reheat it, what temperature do I use on the oven? The same as when I cooked it or a different setting?
Should I just cook the pasta, put all the ingredients together and stick it in the fridge (then cook it tonight)?
I'm still learning- please help!

Re: baked ziti question
If it is for tonight, i would just assemble everything and put it in the fridge (no need to cook twice) it would tend to dry out that way.

Yep, do everything short of baking it. I'd also try to bring it to room temp. before you put in the oven if possible.

This is exactly what I would do. Bake at 350 for about a half hour since all you really need to do is melt the cheese

I agree with this. Not absolutely a must, but it will reduce the cooking time.
You can stick a metal knife into the middle when you think it is done to test if it is or not. It will come out HOT if it is done. I've made it and it wasn't fully done.
Also don't let it sit before cutting it.

Thanks. Do you think 1.5 hours is too long to have it sit out before I put it in the oven?

Not at all! It wil be fine!
You're going to be so excited at how easy it is after the nerves die down, I promise. I'm like that every time I cook something difficult or have a lot of people over.

Thanks for your help! This is my third time cooking baked ziti. First was was pretty good. Second time too much cheese, not enough sauce (DH wouldn't eat it). Hoping to get it perfect (third time's a charm right?). I'm trying out alot of new things as a new cook. It is difficult, but fun!

Thats what I thought! Dh isn't big into cheese..he prefers the sauce. Then again, he's just a strange eater(he doesn't like mashed potatos!)

Yeah definitely bring it to room temp and add extra sauce if it seems dry.

Re: baked ziti question
I probably wouldn't even put it in the fridge. you want the whole thing room temp before you put it in the oven for even cooking.
