Baltimore

DH and I are going away for a few days sans DS, tell me your favorite things to do/places to eat in Baltimore. I've only been there once, and DH never has been so I want to make our few days count! TIA

Re: Baltimore

My favorite is Camden Yards - if the Orioles are in town, definitely try to see a game!

The Inner Harbor is nice to walk around, the aquarium is there and they have a lot of restaurants.

Last time we were there, we went to Mo's Fishermans Wharf for dinner - the crab cakes were amazing...

The Power Plant Life is fun at night.

We did the same--went to Camden Yards to see a game, went to the aquarium, had dinner in the Inner Harbor (I forget where we ate, but there are tons of options).

After dark it got kind of sketchy. Our hotel was 3 blocks from Inner Harbor and we had a couple guys following us, and DH isn't small. Just be careful at night.

I live in Baltimore and I am IN LOVE with my city Chat Icon

All of the things the previous posters mentioned...

Also:
-Little Italy, so cute and small and cozy.
-Bar hopping in Fells Point or Federal Hill
-Walking up North Charles street.. it goes from urban skyscrapers to cute restaurants and bars to gorgeous churches and little parks to museums, etc. it makes us feel like we are in Europe Chat Icon
-Aquarium is VERY expensive, probably would only do it if I had kids with me.
-Taking the water taxi around

FM me if you have any questions!

Re: Baltimore

Inner Harbor looked really nice. I was sad we didn't have more time there to explore.

Re: Baltimore

i agree with everything already mentioned - and yes, after dark it got VERY sketchy!!!

It was funny but NOT funny to see police in riot gear and trailer command centers set up outside the arena.... there was a 50 Cent concert that night and the sirens wailed all night.

Re: Baltimore

Don't know if you have gone to Baltimore yet...

I lived there for 5.5 years and we really had a great time.

Definitely go to Fell's Point, Canton, and Federal Hill for the bars. There are many good restaurants that we were just discovering the year before we moved to LI:

Cork's-Federal Hill
The Brewer's Art-Mount Vernon
Tapas Teatro-Mount Vernon
Babalu-Power Plant Live

The Inner Harbor is great to walk around as is Little Italy and Fell's. Seeing the Yankees play at Camden Yard is fun--there seemed to me more Yankee fans than Orioles fans! If you have time, drive to the Eastern Shore area--very pretty, small towns with cute B & Bs.

Just be aware when you are there, but the parts of the city you will most likely be in shouldn't be a problem at all. I used to teach in West Baltimore (which was not the best area to say the least), live in North Baltimore (which is more like the "suburbs") and hang out at all the places listed above (which are the fun, trendy places for college kids and 20 somethings). A few times I felt unsafe, but no more than any other city.

ETA: We have stayed at the Baltimore Marriot Waterfront which was a great hotel. You could walk everywhere from there. Be sure to ask for a Harbor view if you stay there.

Have fun!

ITA and we did the same. Get a hotel right at inner harbor. Well worth the $$$ and it is safe.

Haha! Yeah, it was pretty yummy. Like I said we were just starting to get into good food and discovering great restaurants when we moved. Now we love going to great places here.

I miss Baltimore alot, actually. It has really become a nice city. I liked how it was so accessible. DH and I were not married when we moved up to LI, but if we had been while we were living in Baltimore, we probably would have stayed there. Or at least one of the counties--I also taught in Howard County which I loved.

Are you from LI originally or from Maryland?
