Bamboo Floors
Does anyone have bamboo floors? How well do they hold up? Do you like them more or less than wood? Anything else you can share about them? Thanks.

Re: Bamboo Floors
I've never seen them in person but last night on HGTV they were showing a house with them (on house hunters) and they are beautiful!

Re: Bamboo Floors
Consumer Reports said they dent easier, so it's possible a brand-new floor looks great, but doesn't age well...? I haven't seen any in person, but it's definitely something we are researching for when we redo our kitchen.

Re: Bamboo Floors
Thanks for some feedback.
They looked like laminate to me in the pictures as well. I have been reading that they are a ton more environmentally friendly than wood floors. I was wondering if the dent easily as well as if you are able to get them refinished like you can wood floors. I also wonder how long they last.
Here is the webpage I was reading about them: Bamboo Floors

We have them and they are laminat(engineered hard wood which means they can be sanded and refinished a few times. Ours have gotten scratches and dents so if you look closely they don't look great. they are beutiful floors though but not the most durable--there are also supposedly some environmental issues with some of them so you may wnat to look into that.

Re: Bamboo Floors
bamboo is supposed to be more durable than hardwood. It is not laminate, bamboo is a grass. It is more environmentally friendly because bamboo grows very quickly, so when it is cut down, it will be replenished in days to months instead of decades, like hardwood. I had wanted to put bamboo or cork in our kitchen, but the previous owners had left a ton of hardwood behind and I didn't want to just throw it away, that seemed more wasteful to me than putting it down. The bamboo floors are made in two directions, vertical or horizontal. One looks more like wood, I can't remember which one. I don't see why there would be any environmental issues with it. The reason it might look like laminate to some of you is because it is not wood, it doesn't have the grains and imperfections like oak or another wood would have.

Read this
I should have explained more carefully-bamboo is easily renewable but many are made with urea formaldehyde adhesive which is obviously a toxic chemical

Great site, Thanks.
I really think I want to use Bamboo, but am wondering about normal wear and tear.

Re: Bamboo Floors
I have seen them at home shows and in stores. They are gorgeous and from what I have heard, highly durable. They are also a green product becacause bamboo is an easily renewable resource.

our friend's floor seems to have held up really well. I haven't inspected it (that would just be rude! ) but it stilll looks the same to me as when they first had it installed over a year ago. It's throughout their living room and kitchen, so pretty much a high traffic area.
