totally inappropriate and I would call and ask to speak with the branch manager about it. The head teller will take care of him real quick afterwards.

You're more than warranted speaking to his manager. Not to get him fired but to get him schooled.
If you're not up for speaking to the manager, I'd say something to him along the lines of "Wow. I didn't know you could comment on people's paychecks. I thought something like that could get you fired?" and leave it at that.
I had a teller comment about SOMEONE else's paycheck to me once. After saying hi to a guy I knew online at the bank, the teller said "He is sooo cute..and rich!" Little did she know he was stalling by the deposit slips to ask me out. But soooo wrong...

rude and completely inappropriate!
It actually got worse after the paycheck comment.
He then jokingly asked if they were hiring at the library and I told him in a not so sweet tone that he'd have to get his masters degree first. His response:
"You need your masters to check out books?"
I was steaming at this point and I looked for his nametag but he wasn't wearing one.
Wow! That would be enough to make me say something to the branch manager!
Totally inappropriate...I may have let it gone with the first comment but with this too.......NOT OKAY!
