Baptism good news and bad news...
... if anyone can help!
Well the good news is that we decided to have the Baptism down here in NC and it's on 12/3, and we're going with the whoever comes, comes!
Now the good news is that I just found out that the church we're having the Baptism at just told me that the Godparents don't have to be Confirmed just a practicing Catholic! That's great news because now I can have my sister be the Godmother, but the problem is that she's not currently registered with a church because she's been between homes in Tampa and Orlando driving back and forth all week long since she moved down to FLA up until somewhat recently. She needs to get a Sponsor certificate or a letter of Eligibility. How can she do that if she's not registered at a church? She was planning on registering this week anyway due to found religion I guess (a lot of personal boyfriend issues) and she wanted to go anyway. I don't think she can just go ahead and register with the church that she can now start going to regularly, and ask them for the paperwork that she needs? How does this work? Who and where does she get it from? Can she get a letter from the church that she was Baptized in saying that she is Baptized and able to be a Godmother? Does anyone know the difference between a Sponsor certificate and a letter of Eligibility? Do you think she can register with the church and also get the letter we need even being a new member? Please help! I was so excited about the new info I found out, but now I'm just worried. We NEED her to be able to get this letter! Thanks ladies!!!

Yes- She can get a letter from the church where her baptism or confirmation were made. I had to do this for one of my Goddaughters. I just went to the church(it was around the corner) and they gave it to me. Happy for you that it is all planned!

When they say they want you to be a practicing Catholic I know they want you to be going to church, but do they actually check up on it? If my sister can get a letter from where she was Baptized how do they know if she goes or not? I mean she wants to start going again, but she hasn't been. Thanks!

Re: Baptism good news and bad news...
When I was my sisters confirmation sponser I needed a letter from my church. I had just moved so I was not registered at the church here yet. I called the church and made an appointment with the preist and spoke to him. I was able to register and the preist filled out the paper for me. Tell your sister to call the church. For me, all of this was done in one day, but I'm sure not every church is the same. Good Luck!
