bassinet mattress??

I was just going to throw some bassinet fitted sheets on my registry BUT I am confused about something. I am just really ignorant about this whole thing, so please excuse me if this is a really stupid question.

- Gerber Knit Bassinet Sheet in ecru fits an 18" x 35" mattress
- Carter's Jersey Fitted Bassinet Sheet in ecru fits standard bassinet mattresses measuring 14 x 31 inches

Since I saw 2 different sizes, I went searching the BRU websites for bassinet mattresses to see if they list a size and I only see crib and toddler bed mattresses but nothing for bassinets. Does the mattress come with the bassinet? How do you know the size? Aahh!

Signed,
Dumb Mommy

Re: bassinet mattress??

where is the basinett from? The description for that may have the mattress size. There are so many sizesof matresses for basinetts it's crazy.
I don't think they come with it though.

Re: bassinet mattress??

I would just call the store where you registered for it and ask them to check for you (to see if the mattress comes with the bassinett). If not, then ask them to recommend which mattress would fit best in the bassinet ans take it from there.

Not sure if this will help you - but I registered for the Cuddle 'N Care Bassinet with Light Vibes Mobile from BRU. I also registered for the 14X29 Bassinet Pad by Simmons that fits perfectly in that bassinet. While the basinnet does come with a thin "matress" type thing, this pad has a quilted vinyl top and a hypo-allergenic cover to "help baby sleep better."

Re: bassinet mattress??

I found this to be a problem too! I am using my grandfather's bassinet. He used it, my mother used it, and my sisters and I used it. It is 85 years old, so I had to measure it for the mattress size. then I went to BBB with the measurements because they didn't have the mattresses on line. There were so many different sizes! My bassinet must be a little larger, so I got one of the bigger sizes. Then there was the challenge of sheets. I had to get "cradle" sheets, not "bassinet" sheets because technically, cradles are bigger than bassinets. The salespeople at BBB were extremely helpful.

Re: bassinet mattress??

I actually went to the store and tried different sheets on the mattress for the bassinet I was going to use. The problem was none of the sheets fit my bassinet mattress, and the bassinet came with just one sheet. So than I ordered sheets from the company that makes my bassinet and they didn't even fit. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon So I have spent the last 3.5 months washing my one bassinet sheet over and over. My DS switched to his crib a few nights ago and I do not have to worry about washing the same sheet over and over, but I miss him being in my room. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: bassinet mattress??

If I'm not mistaken... all bassinets come with their mattresses. I know that mine did. Although I don't know if you could actually call it a mattress..... lol

Re: bassinet mattress??

All of the bassinets that I saw at BBB came with mattresses but all with very thin mattresses. They sell thicker ones right there, for somewhere around $20-25. I ended up with 2 similar bassinets b/c someone gave my mom a brand new one that they had never used. I use one of the basssinets downstairs and one upstairs. I bought one of the thick mattresses, my mom bought the other. One is a bit too long, the other is a bit too short. The long one is really hard to fit with sheets and even the short one does not have a perfect fit even though I tried several sheet brands. I prefer the short one, but we had to roll up a blanket and wedge it in so that there is no gap at the end of the mattress. At least I have some sheets that fit that one!!! I hope this makes sense. I was told that there is a standard size for a cradle sheet and a standard size for a bassinet sheet but that some bassinets might use a cradle sized mattress and vice versa. It all became very confusing and to me there did not seem to be standard sizing!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
