Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

for all you veteran moms out there, do you have any opinions on which one is more useful.

or did you even use either one. i hear from some people that they just used their pack and plays in the beginning for the baby to sleep in.

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

We had the bassinet and loved it. I was never a fan of having the baby sleep in our bed - co-sleeper or not - i just thought it was too dangerous.

The bassinet was great - she was in it for about 2 months (could of stayed in it longer - but we decided to move her into her own room and crib). It was nice to have her beside me alongside the bed - so that I had easy access to her for feedings etc..

Loved the co-sleeper, it was great. We used it free standing and I wish I had gotten a bigger one. Will use it for our next one also

The baby isn't in the bed with you, there is a small drop from your level on the bed to the bed level on the co-sleeper.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

I would go with the co-sleeper, espeially if you are BF. I had a bassinet and DS grew out of it in 5 weeks.

We used the pack and play with the upper bassinet level. I like it because its a decent size and I can use it when we travel as she gets older.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

We registered for a bassinet and got it but returned it because it was broken, then we never got another and ended up using the swing for the first few weeks, then after that he went right to the crib. His bedroom is right across the hall and I can see his crib from my bed with the doors open!

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

We used a bassinet and Jenna loved it-we kept it next to our bed until we moved her into the crib.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

we had the Arms Reach mini cosleeper. It was great bc it fit right at the side of the bed and the arm lowered so I could just reach in and grab the baby. Nate slept in it until he was 8 months old.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

I used the bassinet and I loved it. She was right next to my bed and I could just reach in to get her in the middle of the night. I never even had to get out of bed!! We would roll it out to the living room during the day and then into our room at night. She was in there until almost 3 months old when she was too big for it and then we moved her into her crib.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

I had the bassinet which we used on and off for the 1st 3 months and the other times DD slept in our bed with us. For the next baby we have I am definitely going to get the co-sleeper.

I used a pack n play with the bassinet. For the next one, I think I may buy the freestanding Co-sleeper -- my daughter reached the weight limit on the pack n play bassinet (15 pounds) very quickly.

Re: Bassinet or Co-Sleeper?

We wanted to use the CO Sleeper that attatches to the bed but it didn't work for us being we have a King size pillow top mattress. We bought a CO Sleeper that went in the bed with us but DD just wound up sleeping with us anyway... It works out well for now being I nurse
