bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
DD used to LOVE LOVE LOVE bath time but now since she can stand and climb she tries to climb out of the bath and will not tolerate sitting there. Bath time has become a chore. I think I am going to go get one of those rings. Any opinions?

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
Once DS could stand, all he wanted to do was stand and try to climb out of the tub. I finally got tough and forced him to sit - which he didn't like - but somehow it worked in my favor because after that 5 min screaming fit, he didn't try to get up again. I kept telling him he has to sit. He was about 7mo old.... Even now at 15 mo, he wants to stand from time to time, but I make him sit and he does.

DD went through that stage, it lasted for about a month and then suddenly she started to sit and loved the bath again.

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
3 days after I discoverd RIE, I tell him "mommy is afriad you'll fall when you stand in bath, pleade sit" and 9/10 times he sits. That 1/10 times I say "I see you can stand, but I will sit you now" and he usually will stay seated 5-10 min.
I know your probably sick of me talking about it, but the book again is, Your Self Confident Baby, RIE is the name of the parenting metho

I pretty much already do this with DD Shana, but thanks!!! She doesn't care what I have to say, she is interested in exploring and using her new found skills. When I sit her down she starts crying. Hopefully it will pass!

You are so right, it is a new found skill and it will pass. I literally just went through this 2 months ago.

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
I am dealing with the same thing. My Dad showed DS how to stand pulling on my gate one time and ever since then he will. not. stop.
He tries to mount, stand on, climb over/up everything including the bathtub, lol. I had him in an inflatable tub and he is just too mobile now, he won't stay in it, so we got rid of it. Now he tries to climb the sides of the tub. I can't believe how quick he went from crawling to climbing and standing on everything he sees!!! I can't take my eyes off of him.
I hope you are right and it is a phase they will grow out of.

I know, I know! When I posted this same exact question here, I was not satisfied with the answers.
People either say its a phase, my dc is perfect, or just force them down and tolerate the screams. Seriously don't you think their should be something better?
I posted this on a RiE forum, mixed with other questions. If you have time maybe the response will give some insight.

also see if you have time, applies to all aspects of baby discipline.
Say it once and say it right!
And since it looks like I killed your thread
Here as my old thread on my issue about standing in the bath. It wasn't bad until DS was nearly drowning one night. He was standing in the bath for 2 months at that point.

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
DS did the same thing...I would make him sit - explain to him that I didn't want him to fall down "boom"...he would scream and then I would distract him with a toy...he has since gotten over that..it lasted a couple weeks

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
At that stage we did bath time very quickly and once she started to climb and get out, we stopped the bath. I had her hair and body washed in under 2 minutes. Once she started to realize that bath time was over she stayed seated longer. That phase only lasted about a month.

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
DS got over that with the help of 1 great toy. He's been using it for 6 mos - it's the only bath toy I have and its GREAT!
Yookidoo Stack Stream Tub Fountain. The pieces are all hard plastic, don't retain water (aka - no mold!), and stack in different combinations. http://www.amazon.com/Yookidoo-Stack-Stream-Tub-Fountain/dp/B001QCIG16

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
i think its a stage. DS has just learned to pull up to stand so he tries to do it in the bath also.
we tried the bath ring a while back and he hated it - i hated it for him so hit sits/swims in the tub.
do you have toys for her to play with? to occupy her? that has helped us out

Same here. We did very quick baths during this time period.
Now, if he tries to stand, I take the towel and act like it's time for bathtime to end and he sits right back down.

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
We've been going through this for a while. I won't even fill his tub with water right now. He tries standing & crusing to the shower doors so that hecan bang them together. He tries pulling himself up on the faucets. It's horrible for me. I just lather him up & quickly hose him down.

Re: bath time struggles: babies who stand & climb
i deal with this all the time with Ian. you have to ignore the screams when you sit her. and quickly grab a toy to occupy her attention. wash her really fast and then let her go to town exploring. i've become a pro at it.
