Bath Tub or Not?

We are considering remodeling our bathroom. We have discussed removing our tub, since we do not take baths, only showers. We are thinking of building a slightly larger and nicer shower. We can create more space by doing this. This would also allow for a two sink vanity.

The one thing that concerns me is resale. If we do this and decide to sell, it could impact the sale of our home considering this would mean our home would have two bathrooms without tubs, only showers.

Is this common? Has anyone done this?

I think, and the RE agents can correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to say its a full bathroom there needs to be a tub. I could be wrong though.

Re: Bath Tub or Not?

I personally would not buy a house without at least one tub. I think if you are concerned about resale, you should put in a tub.

Do you live in a house or a co-op/condo? If it is a co-op with only one bath - I would say go for it. I have seen people do this before and it is so much better. But if this is ever a house that would have small kids, you need a bath tub.

I also would not buy a house without a tub. This is the mom in me talking - where would I give my children their baths each night. IMO its a necessity.

you need to have one tub in a place

but if you have two full bathrooms -then i say make one a really nice shower - maybe multiple shower heads and a nice seat - an article on cnn said nicer showers are acutally worth in resale then jacuzzi tubs becuase most americans do not have time for baths - but you need at least one tub

I absolutely agree. To gain space you may want to put in a pedestal sink....
