Bathing with Umbilical Cord Stump?

I mean a REAL bath. Is it okay? They told us not to give them until it falls off at the hospital.

I have been giving Billy "baths" on his changing table, but he spit up like an ounce worth of BM this morning, and I just cant get rid of that sour smell. Is one bath and getting the stump wet really gonna effect it?

Not sure, cause I was told never give a bath until it falls off, so I would wait.

If it gets really wet the stump wont fall off faster, and I think it can get infected, call you Dr.

We didn't do a real bath until it fell off.
Start dousing that thing with rubbing alcohol!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was told they can get water poisoning that way since before it heals it's a "driect pipeline" to their circulatory system.

Yeah, my friend's BIL is a pediatrician and I thought it would be a good thing, you know, quick advice and all. But I've heard some scary stories that I'm starting to turn into a paranoid freak.

We left Miranda's alone and it was gone in 10 days. No alcohol or anything. Alcohol actually contains a fair amount of water which in the end makes it not dry up and fall off as quickly.

My doula also recommended goldenseal powder (you can get it at a health food type place) and by the time I got it and went to use it her stump was already coming off.
