Bathroom opinions needed (long)

I'm looking for opinions! We're re-doing both bathrooms and a half bath that is off the downstairs large bedroom. The downstairs bath was originally the master bath for 3 bedrooms. The upstairs is now used as the master suite so that bathroom is the one that's used everyday. This downstairs bath is now just for guests, though it's the "public" bathroom on the first floor - there is no powder room.

We're taking out the tub and replacing it with a rectangular shower in the same space. It's a full gut of the bathroom so I'm considering a cottage inspired look with white or light cabinets, white fixtures, sandy tan tiles on the floor and similar color for the counter tops. See first pic that inspired me. The shower in the second pic shows the subway tile shower that caught my eye.

So here's where I'm looking for opinions... the person we're working with has suggested going with a fiberglass molded base for the shower. It's substantially less than doing a full custom tile shower and could save a few thousand dollars to put elsewhere. Think solid-feeling fiberglass (like a boat deck), not cheap, flimsy pre-fab. It would blend well with the white subway tile so it would be less obvious than the example in the last pics.

What are your thoughts - if you were buying a house would this be a major negative or does it work? I'm inclined to go for it an put the money towards a custom california closet upstairs when we re-do that instead, but I don't want to end up regretting it, wishing I'd done the full tile.

Karen - I love your inspiration pictures. I think the fiberglass is fine, its what we have in the MB and it never occurred to me that there was anything wrong with it. It would look fine with teh subway tile
I would definitely put the $$ towards another project...and I would love closet organizers
