BBQ Dessert
DH and I are going to another couple's house for a BBQ this weekend - we are going to bring dessert among some other things.
Does anybody have any ideas for differnet desserts? I'm sick of bringing cookies, cheesecake, ice cream cake, etc.
TIA!

Re: BBQ Dessert
Frozen Yogurt Pie
SOOOOO EASY
Get a graham cracker crust (pre-made)
Get 2 small containers of yogurt and a small container of Cool Whip...mix together....put it in the crust...in the freezer for about 3 hours....u can serve it frozen or let it thaw about an hour before eating
You can garnish the top if u want (like if u use strawberry yogurt, put sliced strawberries on top, etc)

Re: BBQ Dessert
Anything with fruit is always good...Pound cake, Cool Whip & Strawberries. Ice cream is good too if they'll have room in their freezer.

I was going to recommend the same thing - I make that ALL the time!

Chocolate dipped strawberries
you can also do choc. dipped pretzel rods rolled in nuts or sprinkles. I did this for New Years and I was everyones' favorite person!
I have a recipe for something called "heaven in a bowl" and it's homemade whip cream, choc. chip cookies, choc. syrup, cinnamon, and nuts layered...and OMG, better than sex on some days!

Re: BBQ Dessert
My mom just sent me this recipe. She had it at someone's house last week and she said it was very good & refreshing. Looks perfect for a bbq.

Re: BBQ Dessert
Ice Box Cake
Ingredients: 2 boxes Chocolate wafers 2 pints Whipping Cream 1 tbs Vanilla 2 tbs Sugar 1 square brownie pan
In cold stainless steel bowl, make fresh whip cream with vanilla & sugar. Layer Chocolate wafers and whip cream in rows until pan is full. Spread remaining whip cream over top. refrigerate over night.
Tastes like Oreo cookies! The wafers are softened by the whip cream and it turns into a cake-like consistency.

Re: BBQ Dessert
Rocky Road Pie
3/4 cup butter 1 3/4 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup light brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1 bag (12 oz.) milk chocolate chips 2 cups mini marshmallow 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans 8 oz. caramel candy - melted
Preparation - Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a 10" springform pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside. In a large bowl, beat butter until light and fluffy, using an electric mixer at medium speed for about 1 minute . Add 1 cup of the flour, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Beat mixture until thoroughly blended. Beat in the remaining 3/4 cup flour to make a soft dough. Spread dough onto the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until top of dough is a light golden brown.
Remove from oven and top with chocolate chips, mini-marshmallows and pecans. Drizzle melted caramel over top. Return to oven. Bake at 325º for 6 to 8 minutes or until edges of marshmallows are light golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes, then remove sides of pan. Cool completely before slicing into wedges for serving.

Re: BBQ Dessert
Also last weekend we had a bbq and I made a very easy and extremely yummy dessert. The only thing is that it has to stay refrigerated until serving.
1 box of chocolate brownies (make in glass pan as directed) 2 small containers of cool whip 2-3 bananas 1 1/2 C cold milk 1 package of instant vanilla pudding (I have also used banana cream)
Bake brownie and let cool. Slice bananas and place on top of brownie. Mix cool whip, milk, and pudding. Pour on top of brownie and bananas. Chill for at least an hour. Garnish with sliced bananas & chocolate shavings before serving.

Re: BBQ Dessert
My version of iced box cake....
litle different from the one above...
Basically make chocolate pudding....
layer gram crackers on bottom of rectangular dish- then put in pudding, then cracker, then pudding....
you can also alternate layers of chocolate and vanilla pudding.
For the top- I smash up gram crackers and put them on the top.. with some chopped walnuts.
Serve with cool whip.
