BBQ grilling question about steaks
I want to make DH steak tonight on the grill
He likes that montreal steak rub alot, is there anything else you guys do to make steak tasty on the grill
I am just going to waldbaums, what is the best steak i should get? I don't think they have filet mignon there, ive looked before.
Is beef tenderloin the same as filet mignon?
TIA

You can get this marinade called Soy Vey..it's delicious...also, if you have a good piece of steak, just salt and pepper are what you need and sometimes I buy Peter Luger steak sauce...enjoy!

I say get a piece of steak with some fat marbled through it, if its too lean, imo it has less flavour. You don't have to eat the fat, but it adds to the taste. I like Rump or Ribeye personally. I marinate mine in soy sauce, chili sauce, dried/fresh galic. Steak is my favorite meal!!!

I agree... a little bit of fat is never a bad thing.
We just put salt, pepper, butter and worscheschire sauce.

Re: BBQ grilling question about steaks
Porterhouse is my favorite cut. Rib is my second.
If you get a good cut you don't need a marinade or rub. A pat of butter and some salt and pepper are just perfect.
If he wants something more - you can sautee some onions to top it with. Or do what my father called 'portugese' style by rubbing it with garlic cloves and squeezing a little lemon or lime on it after it's cooked.
But - if you do want a marinade - you can't go wrong with soy, ginger, garlic, scallions, sugar and a little Montreal thrown in for good measure. McCormack sells a decent packet of meat marinade too. I don't use the vinegar like the directions tell you - I make it with beef stock, oil and worsterchire or soy.
Good luck!
ETA: Filet mignon is part of the tenderloin - the short loin part.

Re: BBQ grilling question about steaks
I like Strip Steak, Scotch fillet (Ribeye in the US, sorry the meat names spin me out), Rump steak, and Eye Fillet (Filet Mignon or Tenderloin).
I have a good recipe with red wine that is really good, if you want I can send it to you.
Otherwise I just let it sit out for 30 mins until room temp with fresh pepper and kosher salt.
I also use soy sauce, a sliced onion and a clove or two of garlic and let it marinate. I usually use it on cheaper pieces of meat. I marinate it for 20 mins.

My standard for steak on the grill is....ribeye, salt/pepper, grill 7 minutes one side 5 minutes the other. Serve w/fried onions ans mushrooms.
