Be careful driving tomorrow morning!!!
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 12 PM EST MONDAY.
A WEAK WEATHER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD LIGHT PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF DRIZZLE AND VERY LIGHT RAIN ACROSS THE REGION MONDAY MORNING FROM THE WEST. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT THIS PRECIPITATION WILL FALL AS LIQUID...UNFORTUNATELY SURFACE TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL BELOW FREEZING AND THIS PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO FREEZE ON IMPACT.
THE RESULT IS THAT EXTREMELY TREACHEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP DURING THE MORNING RUSH HOUR. UNTREATED SURFACES INCLUDING SIDEWALKS AND DRIVEWAYS WILL HAVE A THIN ALMOST UNDETECTABLE COATING OF ICE. RESIDENTS NEED TO MONITOR THIS SITUATION CLOSELY AND PREPARE FOR POTENTIAL TRAVEL DELAYS IN THE MORNING.
WHILE SOME SNOW PELLETS ARE EXPECTED TO MIX IN WITH THE PRECIPITATION...THE HAZARD IS THE LIGHT COATING OF ICE THAT IS EXPECTED. TEMPERATURES WILL STRUGGLE TO THE FREEZING MARK ALONG THE COAST ON MONDAY...BUT REMAIN BELOW FREEZING INLAND. THE VERY LIGHT PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE OVER TO SOME VERY LIGHT SNOW IN THE AFTERNOON. ONLY A LIGHT COATING OF SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...NONE ON LONG ISLAND. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF AN LIGHT ACCUMULATION OF SNOW MONDAY NIGHT ESPECIALLY OVER SOUTHEASTERN CONNECTICUT.
