Not even in the slightest.
I think we have a good few million years before our planet is done with.

I totally agree. It only seems so extraordinary because it's going on in our lifetime.

Re: Be honest...Do you think the recent events are forshadowing the end of the world?
no, i think it just seems more so than in the past millions of years bc we are now a world on instant news and sensationalism, where everything is reported immediately and outlets throughout the worlds, spend hours trying to connect the dots, grasping at straws and deciphering patterns. I think these things have always happened, with similar frequency, but we just werent a "instant gratification world" were everything was reported and if it was, not always in real time.

I'm not sure...I can't think that way because I have children and it would drive me nuts. So I try to enjoy each day and just live life...whatever happens, happens

I think that's the best anyone can do. Sometimes I wonder, like Ophelia said, if it is possible that no way of life can survive forever; I have only recently been studying extraterrestrial life for a freelance project and it has really opened my eyes. I wish I could be naive enough to think that human civilization is all there is and will prevail forever, but now with what I know/research, I just can't

Completely agree. Think about it this way- the dinosaurs roamed this planet for over 150 MILLION years, before a catastrauphic event caused their extinction, which then allowed the smaller mammals to come out of the tree, dominate, and evolve into humans.
By comparison, humans, or modern humans, have only been in existence for a measley 60,000 years or so, and look at the damage we've inflicted on this planet in that short little blip! We won't be the dominant species on this planet forever. At some point, we will either trigger a catastrauphic event that will lead to our own extinction, or it will something outside or control, like the meteor impact was on the dinosaurs. It's anyone's guess, though, when that will happen.
My prediction - the next species to dominate after our extinction will be the cockroaches...

Exactly; we are the yougest "life form" yet we've achieved so much, both to our benefit and our detriment. I find it difficult to reconcile that we can continue on in the way we've been going. Something HAS to give at some point; and we've proven capable of being our own worst enemy.

Nope.
But if it is, then I'm glad that I live (most) days like they're my last on this planet. And if it is, well...oh well. Ain't nothing I can do about it, and everyone will be dead anyway so...no use fretting over it.

Exactly
to answer the OP - NO. Wars go on all the time, earthquakes and natural disasters happen all the time. One is man made, the other is a natural occurrence and they have nothing to do with each other

But does that really matter?? I mean, i don't think that humans will prevail forever, but i'm pretty sure we'll still be here for a few more lifetimes at least. I just can't see myself getting worried about something that is so far out of my control, or that won't happen for such a long time. Chance are human civilization will go through something similar to the dinosaurs.. and who knows what will pop up or prevail after that? All i know is that i'll be long gone by then.. so i really can't worry about it

Re: Be honest...Do you think the recent events are forshadowing the end of the world?
I spent a little time in this thread: http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=633636
showing that the list of terrible things happening now are "nothing" compared to many other eras in our time. The 1930s were a particularly "end-of-days" type environment, and we obviously got past that.
All disasters are terrible, and any loss of innocent life is a bad thing, but from a civilization/planet scale of things, there have been many worse times.

I believe that we cannot and are not supposed to know when the world is ending. Maybe it's not...maybe it is. I'm not going to panic though; I'd rather enjoy my time here...whether it's 7 more seconds or 70 more years.

Oh yeah I meant that like even after I'm gone, what could happen? I'm not worrying that the end is near at all, it's just hard to imagine what is in store for civilization in the future.

I agree.
It's just a little more hyped because not only does the news report it 24/7 but they seem to LOVE to throw in "scary" statistics to frighten people and keep them tuned in as to what's going to happen next.

I don't know if because advancements in communication/technology/education we're just more aware of what's going on. Just seems like there's more media attention to it in the past few years.

no, not at all -- but a handful of people picketing near the St. Pattys day parade route this morning do.

I agree with all of this. I think we are more connected, the world is smaller. Twenty years ago, we would not have known or cared as much about all these disasters around the globe because they wouldn't be in our face. We would be fairly ignorant of what happened on the other side of the planet.
I think our world is chaging and there is a new era upon us but not the end of times. The world is vastly different from what is was just a few years ago. Technology has changed the way we communicate and view the world around us. I hope that humanity uses it to come together and see that despite all the differences we are all people.

Re: Be honest...Do you think the recent events are forshadowing the end of the world?
I do think this could be the start of "end times" but like a pp stated I don't believe the world will end but life as we know it will. Speaking purley from a non religious pt (though I do believe) we have done so much $hit to the earth that the earth will win in the end. The earth will not die, we will. But when - who knows tomorrow, next year, next century - no one knows. Live life for today.
