Beach/Family Vacation Suggestions?
We were trying to stay in Montauk, but I'm finding every place that has availability at this point either has high prices or staff that can't answer the most basic questions (what kind of room are we getting for our stay), so we are giving up on Montauk this year.
Any other suggestions for beach towns in NJ? The Hamptons are out of our price range, and we only want a place for a short stay, probably Sunday through Wednesday in August. We may go back to Cape May, which is where we went last year, but I would like to go someplace different.
Thanks a lot!

Re: Beach/Family Vacation Suggestions?
Last summer we went to a wedding in Point Pleasant Beach. It has such a cute town and a beautiful beach. There were tons of families there and our hotel was reasonable, though not on the beach, but on the Manasquan River. It wasn't too far either, which was nice.

Ocean City, MD if its not too far - HUGE boardwalk. Not sure about your DC's ages.

What about Lake George. That place is very family oriented and you can find all different types of rates.
DH and I stayed here Surfside hotel in Lake George
Looks like they did a lot of renovation since we were there. We said we would totally come back when we have a family. We had fun!

Try the white sands in pt. pleasant. Great hotel, and right on the boardwalk. Very kid friendly. Plus you get a private part of the beach.

I haven't been there in many, many, many years lol, but what about Sea Side Heights? My parents used to take up when we were little.

Re: Beach/Family Vacation Suggestions?
Thanks for all the suggestions! We actually got a call back from a hotel in Montauk this morning, the woman told us she might have a room due to a cancellation, and I did not expect to hear anything frankly. But voila, the cancellation was confirmed, so the room is ours.
Point Pleasant is a thought for the future though--they used ot have a great boardwalk for little kids. Seaside Heights I went to as a kid also--my parents rented in Seaside Park or Island Beach. The heights hotels were always kind of a party scene from what I recall though, so I wasn't sure about staying in them, and I heard the amusement piers are no more--sad!

My parents also rented. Not sure exactly where it was. I barely remember it, thats how long ago it was, lol. Thats so said that the board walk is gone, that was the best. I remember my Dad playing the games trying to win us stuff.

Just a little FYI.. seaside is known as sleazide here... as much as they call it family friendly.. it sadly is not. Just a heads up, because I would hate for you to go on vacation with the kiddies and not enjoy your time.

Re: Beach/Family Vacation Suggestions?
We actually go to Bethany Beach in DE. It is 10 miles North of Ocean City MD.
It is very family oriented and away from th craziness of OCean City. We still hed down to Ocena City for a night on the boardwalk but it is much nicer up in Bethany, especially for the family. We have been doing this for about 19 yeas now.
