Beach with 11 month old?
I REALLY want to go to the beach this weekend, but have never taken DD. I have two questions:
1. Does anyone know what the closest beach to Bayside, Queens would be? I don't care if its North shore or South shore - I just want a beach.
2. For those of you who have gone to the beach with your DC before, what did you bring? I was thinking about the pack n play because DD is SO active now and I am afraid she will crawl all over the place and get sand in her mouth.
Any advice is appreciated. TIA

Long beach ?
Im always there.
I took DD to beach since she was 2/3 months old, but then she was in an infant carrier and SLEPT.
Those days are over.
To you have a sundome?
Definitely bring pack and play, toys etc.

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
Long beach or lido is close to you. Im hoping to take dd she is 8m to jones beach. Im not taking pack n play thats way to big to lug around. Im taking a very large large blanket. That way she can play on that. If its windy like it is today then im not taking b/c im afraid the sand will fly into her face.
I would take a sun umbrella too, sunscreen. I dont plan on staying too long since she just a baby, so not really worrying about anythign for her to nap in.

THe Long Beach boardwalk might be nice....

I think they make little tent type contraptions yoyu can get......

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
Not sure about beaches in that area.
But you can bring a beach tent with you Or a pack n play. I think the pack n play would be alot to carry, plus all of the other stuff you have.
You can also bring an umbrella
We go to the beach every week in the summers, we just brought a beach tent. And honestly the only time DD was in it, was to eat lunch, the rest of the time she was running on the beach or sitting in the water.

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
Thanks everyone. Maybe I'll have to invest in a beach tent, and I will DEFINITELY bring an umbrella.
My big concern is DD putting (or getting) sand in her mouth. She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. Anyone have a problem with this?

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
I live in that area and go either to Long Beach or Jones...but Jones is more convenient in terms of parking, especially with a baby.
OK, I have a 2.75 year old and a 1 year old and I've never taken them...but I so have the itch! If your DD is agreeable to the pack and play, definitely bring it. Mine would not be so I would hope for the best with a blanket and an umbrella and HELP!! As far as the sand...I don't know, but make sure you have plenty of fresh water to wash it out!

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
I've been going to the beach since DS was 2 weeks (in the shade) it was easy since he mostly slept. This summer, he will be 10, 11, & 12 months, so he will be crawling all over. I just plan on bringing a large sheet with an umbrella. Hes gonna eat sand eventually. I had him in it over the weekend and he only tried to eat it 3x. you just have to watch. the fresh air and the crawling makes for a good night sleep.

The only time we had a problem with it was when she fell from running through the sand and went down face first - but she laughed about it

I am debating between these two from One Step Ahead:
Family Beach Cabana Tent
Infant Beach Cabana Tent

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
The First one (Family Beach Cabana) looks good because you can use it a long time -- even with toddlers. AND I checked the website and it got great reviews. Only problem is if I order it it won't be here in time for this weekend. I wonder if any retailers sell it???

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
Defnitely bring a Pack/Play, especially with an 11 month old!!!!!!!!
Fill it up with toys and you will be able to enjoy yourself as well, instead of chasing after DC!!
We tried the sundome and DS was all over the beach with it...Neve used it again!!

It really isn't...especially since it folds up so easily..I also have the wonder wheeler to carry all our chairs/toys/pack/play in!!
Trust Me Gina...bring it if you take DS to the beach!

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
Noah would NEVER stay in the Pack and Play. Hes almost 12 months.
We brought a huge mat I bought for outside play ( like those neat sheet they sell)
Im also buying this for the beach Its only $30 and comes with a carry case
I bought a bucket filled iwth toys and he played.
Im also getting this shopping cart looking thing from Bed bath and beyond that was $60 I think, for the beach to cart everything.

Re: Beach with 11 month old?
yeah -- I have a feeling Kate won't stay in her pack n' play either. She is so active now -- she just wants to get into everything. I just remembered that I have one of those neat sheet things...someone gave it to me last summer. That cart thing looks pretty cool. I guess we will have to make a few stops before we get there to pick up supplies!
Did you have any trouble with DS trying to eat the sand? I think this, and getting sand in her eyes, is my biggest worry!
Thanks for all the advice/suggestions!
