Ok, so I just told my DH about this:
Me: Thailand has a transgender beauty pageant.
DH: Where is that?
Me: Thailand.
DH: I know but there is that.
ME: Thailand. You know where that is.
DH: No I don't.
Me: Yes you do. There was a big tsunami there and that's where (insert name of mutual acquantance) is from.
DH: Ooooooooh, that Thailand. I thought you were talking about a place on Fire Island.

I guess he thought it was a club name. No but perhaps he was thinking of the Ice Palace/Grove Hotel and their Miss Fire Island contest. That one is more transvestite than transgender, though.
