becareful of some chocolate heart boxes
I heard on wbli that in backlot and some other stores they are selling out dated chocolates from 2007... WHY OH WHY WOULD STORES DO THAT????? my question is wouldn't candy taste stale and hard if it was outdated??? I think so. I can understand you dont want to waste food but if it's not good than 86 it.NO?I guess common sense would be to hard to use.

Re: becareful of some chocolate heart boxes
Actually, chocolate is good for up to two years if it isn't refrigerated. So even if they are selling last years candy it wouldn't taste stale.
Refrigeration actually shortens the life of chocolate to about six months.

I know that I would not want to eat chocolate from then....regardless of if its good or not...chocolate that lays in certain temps for too long can get chalky and white looking...i'm sure we've all seen advent calendar chocolates ...not good!

But doesn't chocolate that has been frozen do the same thing?

Re: becareful of some chocolate heart boxes
While it won't kill anyone, I still think they should TELL people if it's 2007 chocolate and give a hefty discount. I would not want to be buying last year's chocolate at this year's price, especially thinking it was fresh.
And sure chocolate can last for a long time if stored properly, but who knows how this was stored. I know that after 2 mos on my shelf chocolate starts to turn white
