Because I had blurry vision on the Clomid, my RE won't prescribe it anymore..

So I went to my RE this am, and bc I had blurry vision on the Clomid, she won't prescribe it to me anymore. This is probably for the best, but I now have to give myself injections. Chat Icon I have another appt on Thursday to discuss this and then I have to go to an injections course on Thursday, too. Did anyone have to do this? If so, how was it? I'm not a fan of needles so IDK how I'm going to do this...

On the bright side.. today is CD 12 and I have a sono and had one, 12mm follie!! I should be on my way to O'ing! It just stinks that the first time Clomid is actually working, I can't take it anymore! Fingers crossed for the big O! Chat Icon

Def ask about femara/letrazole. It’s similar to clomid but in my opinion better – less side effects, doesn’t thin your lining.
I didn’t respond to clomid and I was allergic to it, so it’s not an option for me anymore either. So far femara has been fine, only side effect has been night sweats. As far as effectiveness I can’t compare it to clomid because I am doing injectables with it, so I don’t know how much of my response is from which drug, but I produced WAY TOO MANY follies last cycle and had my cycle canceled.

So anyway ask your doctor about it! I know it’s actually a drug used to treat breast cancer, and it’s use for fertility is still “unapproved.” For me that’s a good thing though cause it’s covered by my insurance where clomid wasn’t.

As far as injects go – its really not that bad. I am on my second cycle of it. First cycle DH did them for me, this cycle I have done them to myself. It’s scary at first but really, it seems worse than it is. I didn’t have to do a course either, the nurse at my RE just showed me how to do it, and then I showed DH.

Good luck!

Thanks! I will definitely ask about Femara on Thursday! I would really prefer taking a pill to injections, but will do what I have to do to make this happen for us.

I only have one, 12mm follie. Should I have more at this point? I guess 1 is better than 0, so at least I am making some progress. This is all so new to me, I'm kinda lost! Chat Icon

What cycle days did you take the clomid? 12mm at this point sounds like its OK as long as it keeps growing. When do you go back for more monitoring? When I did clomid the largest I got was a 14mm and it stalled out. What dosage of clomid were you on? Do you know if you are going to trigger ovulation with an HCG shot? If so I believe the follicle is consider mature around 18mm + (someone correct that if its wrong).. I’ve never actually gotten there and been able to trigger so I could be off on the exact size Chat Icon

She started me on 100mg of Clomid on CD 3 and I'm now at CD 12 and only have the 1, 12mm follie. When I asked the nurse if this was good/bad, she was sort of indifferent and said it was OK. I'm going back on Thursday to check the size, but they didn't mention a trigger shot. Before I started Clomid, she mentioned that if the 100mg didn't work, she'd just up the dosage to 150mg immediately w.o starting a new cycle... but now that Clomid is out of the question, IDK what she's planning. SO frustrating!!! Chat Icon

Yeah I mean I wouldn’t stress about it at this point. At least you have one follie in the works. I was on 50mg and at my first appointment there wasn’t even anything measurable. At the next appointment I had one that was 14mm but it was already later in the cycle. Then I went back again a few days later and it hadn’t grown at all. If at that second appointment I hadn’t had the 14mm I would’ve prob done another immediate round of clomid or possible letrazole. Usually if they decide you aren’t progressing they will check your lining. If it’s thickened a lot, they will prob make you get AF with provera before they will start a new protocol. But if it hasn’t gotten there yet some RE’s just go straight into the next med cycle immediately. It will be based on your hormone levels as well.

But follies can grow like 2-3mm a day at times so you are absolutely not out yet for this cycle. Stay positive, grow follies, GROW!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you! Chat Icon
That's what happened to me on 50mg.. absolutely no maturity at all. I have my fingers and toes crossed that this follie grows by Thursday!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
