Because it is a slow day lets discuss...Oprah Premire Week...

I just saw the commercial and former Gov. Jim McGreevey will be on Tuesday. Apparently Oprah grills him on lying about being gay to his wife and the public.

I really do not care if he is gay or not, but the lying bothers me. I cannot imagine being married and having children with someone and all of a sudden they come out that they are gay. Chat Icon I would be like W T F???? Why did you marry me? I would feel so betrayed. I would also feel betrayed whether or not he cheated with a man or a woman. IMHO, cheating is cheating period.

What are your thoughts about this?

I had a coworker who was married for I believe 28 years and her husband at some point in their marraige realized he was gay. They had one child together. They eventually got divorced, but how weird would that be?

Wouldn't you know you were gay 28 years earlier?? If people are born gay or straight, why would you be gay and marry a woman? I don't get it. Chat Icon

A lot of people are in denial. Until it gets to the point where they just can't live the lie anymore.

I heard on the news today that he left his wife at the hospital while she was giving birth to go have sex. That, to me, is unforgiveable.

I'll wait and see if that's true though. Chat Icon

being gay is not easy in this world...even though it is a bit more accepted now, years ago it wasn't, so many people married in hopes to be accepted...denying who they really were just so they could be normal...its really sad.
I do think Its upsetting..his poor wife must have been devestated.

If it is true, that is unforgivable and so is cheating of any kind, IMHO. I can't stand McGreevey, especially since he gave his lover the job of homeland security director for NJ. He is an AZZ!

see this is the problem america has with anyone homosexual. if you are born that way, why did you marry and have kids? why not just embrace it and get on with your life?

and i think the lie would bother me too.

b/c getting "married" is how you are accepted in this society...maybe if gays were allowed to get married just like everyone else we wouldn't have this problem

I do think its disgusting that he left his wife while she was giving birth to go have sex and gave his lover and very important job! that is inexcusable

Re: Because it is a slow day lets discuss...Oprah Premire Week...

Years ago being gay was considered a mental illness - and that wasn't changed until the 70s! It's not such an easy thing to embrace when some people, especially in the past, could lose everything - family, friends, jobs even in some cases - just for coming out. I think that's why so many people get married to appear "normal". I honestly feel bad for people who feel they have to do this. It's not fair to the spouses and children involved, but I don't view it the same way I would a man who cheats on his wife with another woman.

If what they said about him leaving his wife in the hospital to go have sex is true, I think it's repulsive. That's just NOT necessary under any circumstances.

They also had this on CBS news last night. In a way I feel sorry for him having to live this way for so long (in denial), but at the same time, I don't because he betrayed his wife and family knowing that he was gay. It's perfectly ok to be gay, but it's not ok to "pretend" you're straight just because you can't handle the pressure of being gay. People often say, "how did his wife not know"? Sometimes, the signs are as clear as day, but we can't help but to be in denial and think that it's not true and not happening to them. How devasting it must be to be her.....I don't know if I'd want to punch him or hug him.

I'm not sure this is a rumor. I think he told Oprah this. He used to tell her he was going out for a run and meet up w/his lover, etc. I just feel soo horrible for his wife. What a sad thing. I don't understand why people cannot be honest with themselves. Why bring down everyone around you. Be true to yourself and you wouldn't have this problem. Especially in today's society where being out is accepted.

I know someone in this exact situation. Married 28 years, on child, now divorced (maybe it's the same couple?)

I know the man, and he honestly didn't know he was gay. he was in deep, deep denial for most of his life.

He loves his wife more than anything, but he realized he was gay. He didn't marry her under false pretenses, he really didn't know.

ETA: I know alot of people in their 20's, which is when most people get married, who are just confused about sexuality and don't want to admit it, and throw themselves into relationships with one sex or another, and if they fall in love, then they'll believe it's the truth of who they are, and if you l,ove someone and get married, it's very easy to throw yourself into that life and completely put the issue on the back burner, and say
this is it, I'm hetereosexual" and for it to not come up until years later
