Becoming an administrator
Has anyone on here successfully made the leap from teacher to administrator?
If so, exactly what certifications do you need? (I hear different people call them different things.)
I am DOE if it makes a difference.
I would love to hear any other thoughts or comments.
TIA!

I am licensed but have no interest in making the jump..I know a number of people who have...sometimes through your district, there might be a program..I did the CITE program and you leave it with your school building and school district licenses..if you have questions, I know I was the last year before you had to start taking a test, but you can FM if you'd like..and I'd wish you all the luck in the world..

I also did the CITE program and I thought it was great. I went Saturdays from Oct-July got my SBL (School Building Leader) cert. I waited a little while and then went back 6 months later for the last 2 classes for my SDL (School District Leader)
Each certification has an 8 hour test (given in two parts).
I think I heard they were changing from the test format to a portfolio format but Im not too sure about that.
i have both certifications but have not made the jump yet. Maybe in a few years.
feel free to fm me if you have any questions

Re: Becoming an administrator
I made the jump and my only advice is to get an admin job in a different school that you work in.
It creates less tension among everyone.

Glad you posted this. I am interested in doing the program too. It seems like CITE is the cheapest. CWPost has a cohort that meets in my district-26- but even with the 50% discount it will still come out to more than the Cite program. The only thing about the Cite program is I hear you really can't miss any classes and thats hard with things like weddings on the weekends. I wish Cite had a night program.
Also anyone know what the job market for APs is like?
If you go to the DOE site there is info on different ways to become and administrator. There are several programs you can apply to. GL
