Bees nest

DH found a bees nest near the garage... you can't see it, but see bees flying in and out all day long....he tried spraying, but it didn't help....He called an exterminator yesterday and they quoted us $250 bucks..... I thought that was insane..... has anyone had this problem before? does this price sound high? TIA

Re: Bees nest

Unfortunately, we just had to do this yesterday. Wasps made their home in an abandoned Carptenter Bee nest inside the soffit by my front door I wish it had been an external nest so DH could have taken care of it. After getting several quotes, they were all the same $250. They will kill the nest with pesticide then dust it so that the bees do not return.

Re: Bees nest

I have killed a bee nest before, actually about 7 days ago. How close did you DH get to it with the wasp/bee killer spray? I wore glasses and used an entire can and sprayed the crap out of it. Then let it sit for about 1 hour and then hosed it off the gutter and proceeded to use more spray. I did exactly what my dad told me and it worked. Luckily I didn't get stung

Wish my DH could do the man things like that, but he's highly allergic to bees and I'm not (grr!). But I did feel very proud of myself once it was off the gutter.

We're having this problem too, but we don't know where they're entering. We've found one too many in the upstairs bathroom, so their either coming in from the window, or the ceiling vent.

We think we may have a nest in our attic. I guess we better call around too!Chat Icon

luckily our nest was in the corner of our siding & gutter, tucked so tight in there, but right by the front door.

I can't imagine it in the house, that's def. a phone call for a professional.

Re: Bees nest

I have to say, after talking to the exterminator yesterday, they are probably wasps (which I am allergic to), he said most of their calls were about wasp nests.

I wonder if wasp nests are stronger than bees nest hence why its so difficult to remove them yourselves?

My DH is allergic too......... so I'm certain he didn't get close at all...lol... he tried a few days in a row.... the problem is...the nest is inbetween the siding somehow...so we can't see if were hitting it or not...... looks like were goning to have to spend the $$$..... Glad you didn't get stung...

Re: Bees nest

I've killed wasp nests by just spraying them. If they are in the open and not too large, this works wonderfully. Just last week, however, I had a bees' nest in the bush near my back door. I tried spraying, but, the nest was so far into the bush I couldn't get good access. That night when they had settled down, I boiled water and dumped into the bush. Next morning, no more bees. On the downside, the boiling water killed a small section of the bush at the top.

hmm, I never thought of boiling water. That's a good idea, I mean not for your bushes, but def. a good & safe idea. I will keep that in mind for future buggies!

Re: Bees nest

Did you use the spray that turns into a mousse-like foam all around it? That's what we used and it works everytime a new nest comes.
