Begging on corner of LIE
Do you give money to them? The cynic in me says no but I feel bad sitting there in my air conditioned car while they are on the side of the road.

No they use this for drugs.
If you want to give them food or something they could use, then do that. Never give money. IME most are scammers.

That's what I'm assuming. The signs are always nicely written. I'd rather give to the food pantry where I know it's being given to people who need it.

I'll be honest, I do. I usually have a buck or two sitting in my console and some days its just so hot. I get they may use it for drugs or whatever, but to me its just a cup of 7-11 coffee so its not a big loss and in my mind there's maybe a chance they could use it for food or something useful. I can't help it, its my nature.
ETA, its always while there are alot of people around and they are always polite and appreciative.

If you knew the stories behind these people, you would never give. I know at least 2 who used to stand around begging. They make more than we do at a regular job and most just use for drugs. Most are offered jobs and won’t take them.

The development where I live is off the service road so every day, I have to make a turn where people are holding up a sign for money. It is the exact same sign every day BUT different people!! Yes, I believe these are scammers and do not give money.

Most of the people begging on street corners or in front of stores are scammers. You are better off giving money to a food pantry or one of the organizations that assists with the shelters.

there was a panhandler in my neighborhood years ago. no one saw her in winter...someone spotted her at a condo in florida well dressed.
