I don't like "sets" of pots and pans simply because you often end up with pieces that don't suit your needs. I have many different brands, all mix matched, because I like different brands and styles for different things.

I love my egg pan and pasta pot by Calphalon, I use my Lodge/Le Creuset/Staub Cast Iron for braising, roasting etc. I love enameled cast iron pots for making sauces, soups and stews.

I buy things that I need and like as I see them. I stopped buying "sets" and one brand only years ago. I find my pots and pans are more functional that way. Chat Icon Chat Icon

For a braising pot which can go from the stove to oven le creuset or staub.

For a tri ply aluminum Alclad or Calphalon.

I also have one non stick pan that I replace annually.

Edit, I’ve had my calphalon set for 15 years and they are still excellent.

Stainless Steel Belgique. Lids are stainless as well. I've had mine for a decade- love them.

Calphalon Tri Ply or All Clad Stainless

We have the calphalon tri ply set for 5.5 years now and they are just like new. I don't really use my frying pans though- I typically use a stainless one for eggs and stuff

I don’t like pots and pans sets very much either. I have pots for boiling water (Chef Inox, stainless steel) and a big saute pan when making certain things that won’t fit in my cast iron and I need higher sides (WMF).

For everything else I use my Le Creuset, Staub, or Lodge. Yes, even for eggs.

Agree with all this plus add in a lodge cast iron skillet. Like others said, consider skipping the set and buying individual pieces. I paired down my calphalon try ply set over the years to a stock pot, 2 sauce pots, and one small skillet. I have a large all clad skillet, a small nonstick skillet, a Dutch oven, and 10" lodge.

Cast iron pans for sure! Also enameled cast iron like Le Creuset and Staub, I personally like Staub more than Le Creuset cause the enamel is darker and possible stains from everyday cooking are not as visibles as in a Le Creuset pot.

Re: best, best, best pots and pans

I have a mix of pots depending what I need them for.
Chantal enamel on steel - I actually have a set of these from eons ago. Various pieces including two different size stock pots.
WMF stainless steel frypan and saucepans in different sizes.
Fissler stainless steel frypan with domed lid.
Lodge cast iron skillet
Calphalon non-stick saute pan
Scanpan non-stick frying pan
My mother's two enamel on steel dutch ovens. Have no idea the brand but they are over 50 years old.

I got a set of Belgique for my shower many years ago and they've been great! I recently tried a new recipe from a book my son got at the library and the thing burned. The pot had lots of black scorch marks inside, i knew I could save but my DH threw it out when I wasn't home Chat Icon

I have a Calphalon wok that has been amazing and my Lodge porcelain coated dutch oven and my lodge cast iron pan are amazing too.
