best book

I'm looking for recommendations for your favorite, most practical book about pregnancy and the things I need to do to actually prepare for baby. I have What to Expect, but are there any others? I read some of the posts on here and I realize I am truly clueless about what I will need to do, giving birth, etc. It makes me a little nervous.

HELP please!

Re: best book

This isn't so much pregnancy/labor and delivery oriented but a friend gave me the book "heading home with your newborn" and we found this book to be a great resource as first time parents in those early weeks where everything is so new and you don't really know what you're doing yet. Hope that helps Chat Icon

Re: best book

I like the Great Expectations book. Sometimes it gets a little too much into all the natural and alternative stuff, but I like how it reads.

Also I loved the baby bargains book as a reference guide for what baby gear was recommended to get and get a better idea of what I needed to prepare for the baby as far as "stuff" goes.

I didn't buy any books and don't plan to. Between these boards and babycenter I'm scared enough. I don't need fear in paperback as wellChat Icon

Re: best book

I have the What to Expect book and Pregnancy by week and hated them both! Worst thing to read during your first trimester especially! Once I found out I was having twins I got "how to have a healthy twin pregnancy" book and it was extremely helpful. If not for that, I would have read nothing.

I felt books regarding what to do after the baby arrives to be more helpful. For example, books on sleep/ feeding schedules (12 hours by 12 weeks is great) and the vaccine book by Dr. Sears are two that i highly recommend. I went crazy buying books when i was pregnant with my first and my most fave was the Mayo Clinic one.
