Best Family vacation with driving distance of LI
Looking to go somewhere this coming weekend - last minute decision. I have a 17mth old so looking for someplace within driving distance of LI - am open to taking the ferry to RI or CT...
I was thinking about newport as I LOVE it there but the hotels are so expensive on saturday night. I was also thinking about doing a day trip to M. Vineyard from some base on RI but dont know if it would be a lot of schlepping for one day.
Any ideas welcome.
TIA

Re: Best Family vacation with driving distance of LI
If you want to do RI, but Newport is a little $$$ I would suggest staying in Westerly. It's a small beach town and your about 20 minutes from Mystic, the ferry to Block Island, and the casinos and about 30 minutes from Newport. It's much more reasonably priced than Newport. I just went last week with my girlfriends and we stayed at The Andrea Hotel. It's right on the beach, but it can be a little noisy at night- they have a bar and DJ every night. There are other more quiet motels like Pleasant View Inn and The Tradewinds.

Go without him Seriously, it's so much fun there and the rooms are awesome for little kids! It's expensive, but really, by the time you factor in the price of waterpark tickets, say at splish splash, it sort of evens out. They have a bedtime story each night where the kiddos wear their PJs in the lobby. It's cute.
